My eyelashes slide across my face as my eyes fluttered open. I took in my surroundings. I wasn't in the kitchen anymore. I was laying in my bed. Who put me there? It must've been dad. He was trying to make it up to me for lying. Well it isn't going to work. I scrambled out of my bed and ran out of my room. I marched right down the stairs. "Dad, we ne..." I stopped short when I seen the living room. Dad wasn't there. But Dave was. Why was here? I tried to make a quick getaway so I could recollect my thoughts but his voice stopped. "John. I know you're there. Come on we need to talk." How does every Strider do that? Do they have super sences or what?
As soon as I sat down on the couch Dave stood up. "What's the..." He interrupted me. "What were you thinking? Going against what your dad said. Flipping out. You're gonna get yourself hurt. Again!" He crossed his arms in front of his chest. "You scared your dad to death John." He sighed. "You scared me." I didn't know I had caused this much trouble. I just wanted to know about the girl in the pictures. I just wanted the truth. "I'm sorry." I mumbled. Dave sighed again. "It's fine. Just... Promise me you won't do it again." I nodded. "I promise." He ran a hand through his hair. "Good. Good. I think it would be best if we ca..." His sentence was short. His knees bucked out from under him and he collapsed to the ground. "Dave?"
