"The Death of Toni Topaz" PART THREE

2 weeks later

Cheryl's POV

For the past few weeks, I've been helping Veronica and Reggie with setting up the Speakeasy. Betty has been helping too. Recently, I have seen Heather around school but she has been avoiding me. I don't blame her. She probably hates me.

Veronica: (Walking into the speakeasy, holding a box) God, what is that smell in here? It smells like rotten flesh.

Betty: (Pouring herself a glass of water) It smells like its coming from your roulette cupboard.

Betty nodded towards the cupboard. I stared at the cupboard in horror.

Flashback: Two week's ago

I slammed the cupboard shut and locked it. Before Veronica came back downstairs I shoved the keys in my pocket and ran back upstairs.

Present time

Veronica made her way behind the bar and opened all her drawers.

Veronica: (Looking in drawers) Hey, have you guys seen my keys for that roulette cupboard. I gotta get that smell out of here.

Cheryl: (Leans on bar) Um..why don't you ask Reggie?

Betty: (Slapping a fly out of her face) I'll go ask him.

Betty jogged upstairs. V walked over to the cupboard and tried to open.

Veronica: (Pulling handle) Yup, it's definitely locked. Maybe Reggie or Archie can bust it open-

Cheryl: (Shakes head) -I don't think that would be a good idea! It will cost a lot of money to replace the handle.

Veronica: (Facing Cheryl) You're right. Keep an eye out for those keys, yeah?

Veronica ran upstairs to join Betty and Reggie in the diner. I gave a glance at the cupboard and checked my coat pocket to make sure the keys to it were still there.

Veronica: (Shouts from upstairs) Cheryl, are you coming?

Cheryl: (Shoves keys back in pocket and shouts) I'm coming!

I gave the cupboard one last glance and ran upstairs to Pop's.

Heather's POV

I was at Archie's helping him with his songwriting. We decided to take Vegas on a small walk to the Southside.

Archie: So...I've not really had a chance to ask. How have you been keeping? You know, with Cheryl?

Heather: (Sighs) I've been avoiding Cheryl since that night at La Bonne Nuit. I think I should just move on.

Archie: (Looks at a poster on a tree) Hey, since when was Toni missing?

I turned to the tree Archie was looking at to see a poster on it.

MISSING!

Name: Antonette Topaz
Age: 18 years old
Last seen: Outside Pop's Chock Lit Shoppe at 8:06pm 11th October

If you see her please report to the RPD (Sheriff Jones)

Heather: (Reading poster in shock) She's been missing since that night she got banned from Pop's and the speakeasy.

I looked at Archie in confusion.

Heather: Maybe she left the town because she didn't get her own way. I wouldn't be surprised.

Archie: It's a coincidence how she went missing the same night you and Cheryl had a fight with her.

I turned to Archie in shock.

Heather: Are you trying to say that I have something to do with her disappearance?! Archie-

Archie: -No I'm not saying that! Maybe she left town due to fighting with you both.

Heather: And since when did she argue with Cheryl?

Archie: I don't really know the whole story. You should ask Veronica.

Heather: Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if Betty and Jughead were already working on finding Toni.

Archie: Eh, I think she just fled the town. I don't think it's a big deal.

After we finished our walk around the Southside we headed back to Archie's house.

{Later that night in La Bonne Nuit}

Veronica's POV

Archie was helping me lock up the speakeasy and the diner.

Veronica: (Looking in drawers again) Archie, have you seen my keys for my roulette cupboard?

Archie: (Pointing to the floor, by the stage) Is that them there?

I walked over to where Archie was pointing. I picked the keys up. They were exactly what I've been looking for for weeks.

Veronica: (Looking at keys while holding her nose) I wonder how they got there. Maybe someone found them and dropped them.

Archie walked over towards me, batting away some flies in the progress.

Veronica: (Unlocking the cupboard) Time to find out what this disgusting smell is-

As the doors opened, something came flying out and on top of me.

Veronica: (Dodging) Ah!

Call me crazy, but I know what I saw. A dead body landed in front of us both.

And I can recognise those pink hair highlights anywhere.

Archie: (Turning to Veronica) Ronnie....I-is th-that....

Veronica: (Turns to Archie) Oh my god....

We stared at none other than Toni Topaz's corpse, horrified.
