"What have you been doing behind my back Khun Aroon?" Kit murmured, as he browsed through the unconscious patient's charts.

He turned to the doctor beside him, "When did this start?"

"He was doing alright an hour ago. I was alerted by the nurse just ten minutes back.
Torsade de pointes and increased pulmonary pressure."

"Problems with electrolytes." Kit wrote up a few things and handed the charts back to the doctor. "See that done immediately."

"Yes sir."

Kit turned back to glance at the patient, who was now being attended to, "Good fighting. Keep it up, will you? Su su na." He said softly before leaving.

He continued down the ward with his accompanying team, on his rounds. The morning had been hectic but the afternoon was dragging slower than usual. Today, in particular, felt even more morose than any other day. He so longed to go home and take a long bath and just relax with a bottle of beer.

Beam's news had brought out mixed emotions in him. On the one hand he had felt glad that the two were finally getting together to take the big step forward in life. It was time they did. They had been letting the matter hang for too long. Being too much busy was a permanent part of their respective job descriptions. That didn't mean they had to let it affect the one life they had been granted. They had a right to live that life happily too.

But he could also feel the beginning of a familiar ache that, he had thought, had healed long back. For heaven's sake... He was tired of it. You would be like this on a day that is supposed to be your best friend's happiest day till today, would you? Do you deserve to be called a friend? He shook his head at himself with a hint of disgust. Pull yourself together Kittinan. He crossed his left arm across his stomach and rubbed it with his right, pressing the arms close to his body for a moment.

A glance at the clock showed that he had a little over an hour left till he went off duty. Shaking off his thoughts, Kit continued visiting the last of his patients, wanting to finish up quickly and go home.

It was two hours later however, that Kit could finally enter his chamber. He stretched, relieved that the day was over and quickly changed out of his white coat just as a knock came from the door.

"Are you heading home now Chief?" asked Dr.Kay, popping his head just inside.

"Yes." Kit said, waving the young doctor inside. "I don't have many OPs scheduled for tomorrow, right?"

"No. Thank God." said Dr.Kay, coming in and collapsing on the comfy chair. "Only two minor ones in late afternoon. Why don't you take a break of a few days? You've been almost living in the hospital for the last couple of weeks."

"What would I do at home except getting bored?" Kit said, "Even if I have nothing to do I prefer being here. At least I can get together with Ai'Pha and A'Beam for an hour or two. I'll go home tonight though and have a relaxing bath. Want some coffee? I feel like having a cup."

"No thank you, Chief. Just go home and have a good sleep. Forget about the hospital for an evening. I'll inform you if there is any emergency. Not that I expect there to be any."

"Speaking of emergencies..." Kit suddenly remembered the call for Pha.

He took out his phone and dialled Beam's number. "Ai'Pha got called to the ER this afternoon. I haven't been able to reach him after that. Do you know what is going on?"

"Not much. Only that some sort of VIP got into an accident with head injury. Dr.Phana has been in the theatre ever since then. I guess it's going to take time."
