Life at camp went on as usual, I guess. Well, as usual as a Greek summer camp could get. I managed to scale the "impossible" climbing wall with only a few burns and scratches. A Hephaestus girl lit herself on fire working in the forges (she's still in the infirmary). Kyle mostly stayed away from me for the most part, only dunking my head in the toilet once.
About a week after my attack, Melissa burst into my cabin right after curfew, an excited look on her face. "You know the cleaning harpies eat anyone out after curfew right?" I hadn't really been expecting her so I was in my superman pajama pants and my cabin was a mess. I expected her to freak out about the curfew and my dirty room but she just waved her hand at me.
"Who cares about the harpies? This is important!" From her face, I could tell she wasn't kidding.
I sighed and motioned for her to sit on the bed across from me. "So, what is the news do important that you had to break curfew for?"
Melissa started jumping up and down as if the news was trying to break free of her body. "Okay, so today after the campfire, James came up to me and..." she began hyperventilating.
"James came up to and...?"
She took a deep breath. "He asked me out."
Asked her out? Knowing Melissa for as she long as I have, I knew she wasn't the romantic type. She hated love and everything that came with it. I know I'm no love expert, but James was so______ and Melissa was so _______, if you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong here but I liked James. Obviously not like like but over time, we had grown to be friends. Yet somehow, I found it hard to be happy for her.
"So, what did you say?" I asked, most likely knowing the answer.
"Yes! Obviously, I've liked him forever." That was kinda a shock to me because she never showed any feeling toward the Athena child.
"Well, if your happy, I'm happy." I said in almost monotone.
She frowned. "Are you alright? You don't sound genuinely happy."
I tried my best to sound convincing. "I really truly am. I guess I'm just tired. By the way," I added. You should probably stay here tonight just in case. I heard the harpies can be tricky and I really don't want to have to save my best friend from demon chicken ladies at 10 o' clock at night."
A smile slowly crept back onto Melissa's face. "Thanks. Your the best." she said while pulling the silvery of her bed over her. "Well, goodnight."
"Goodnight." I replied.
However, my night was everything but good.
