It was Sunday morning and I was enjoying my peaceful sleep. Which didn't happen very often, so when it did, I tried to enjoy it as much as I could. Which wasn't sadly the case today. Suddenly the doorbell started going off.
I groaned in pure annoyance and tried to ignore it by putting a pillow over my ears and that person wouldn't stop touring me. After five minutes of the doorbell ringing continuously, I decided to give the person a good scolding.
I opened the door and was about to scream at the monstrous creature that couldn't stand me sleeping, but my eyes widened in horror when I saw Anika standing in front of me.
With a lot of things occupying her arms. She handed me a shopper filled with God knew what. She entered my apartment and started walking around until she found her way to the kitchen.
“Good morning”, she chirped and put down the shopping bags. Anika looked at me before she turned around and started taking stuff out of that bag.
She placed a jar filled with jam on my table, then took out a loaf of bread. The next thing that came out were sandwiches and at last two croissants.
I looked at everything and face-palmed myself, before walking over to my bathroom to brush my teeth. When I was back, the whole table was set with breakfast and she even had coffee ready.
“Do you like it?”, she asked me in a high pitched voice and I just nodded. Anika walked over to me and sat down beside me. I didn't ask her why she came. That would've been rude.
“I came because I felt lonely and you're my friend”, she smiled and I just took a bite from the croissant. It was filled with marmalade.
“Do you have any plans for today?”, she asked me while taking a sip from her tea. I guess she wasn't a big fan of coffee. I just shook my head.
“Good”, she smiled and I didn't look at her. Looking at Anika was contagious. She made me feel very sick. But in a good way. Not the bad way. I still didn't like it.
“I have brought my favorite movie with me and some games”, she said and I only smiled at her slightly. The rest of the time passed by in silence. Anika would say something completely irrelevant from time to time.
I cleaned up the table, while Anika did the dishes. I didn't ask her to nor did I like her working. She was a guest. When she was done, she looked at me. I just stood there. Suddenly, Anika grabbed my hand and started making her way to my room.
She didn't know the way, but I had a small apartment and it was obvious where my room was. Once we entered the room, she looked at me before she looked at my outfit. Anika had that stupid thinking face and soon enough she was going through my wardrobe.
Did she know that something like boundaries existed? Anika grabbed a black turtleneck and a black pants. She then shoved me into the bathroom. I got changed. When I came out, she wouldn't stop looking at me.
Anika stepped closer and pinched my cheeks. I glared at her. She grabbed my hand and we both fell down on my bed. Her head was almost resting on my shoulder and I didn't seem to mind. I turned my head and looked at her.
“I hope you don't mind me”, she smiled weakly with her eyes filled with longing for something. I just shook my head. Anika smiled before her pinky finger met mine and sent electrics through my body.
“What do you want to do?”, I asked her and she looked at me. Anika sat up and we walked into the lounge room. She turned on the TV and put on her favorite movie.
Important: Fav Movie A Walk To Remember
We watched the movie together and by the end she couldn't stop crying, I patted her shoulder, but she wouldn't stop sobbing. Anika then buried her head into my shoulder and my body went completely numb. Her hands slung around my waist and suddenly I forgot how to breathe.
I looked at her anf after fighting with myself for an eternity, I lowly put my arm around her. She looked up and I smiled at her awkward. Anika hiccuped and I wiped her tears. I tried to pull away to get her some water, but she wouldn't let me.
“I don't like deaths”, she mumbled softly and I just caressed her hair. If somebody saw us, they'd easily mistake us as a couple. We weren't one though.
“Why?”, I asked her and she just shook her head. I looked down. Anika was very petite. I wondered if that was because she had nobody to look after her.
“I just don't”, she whispered and I placed my hand on hers, which was clenching my shirt. I took a deep breath.
“It's okay, nobody's gonna die”, I told her and she slowly pulled away. For some reason, I missed her in my arms and the world once again seemed cold.
Anika's eyes seemed very dull. And my heart clenched when I realized that there was a hint of suffering in them. I didn't like to think that she had to go through something terrible. Anika didn't deserve it. The look in her eyes was questioning and I didn't like it. It scared me.
“Nobody?”, she arched a brow and I nodded to reassure her. Anika smiled and got off from the sofa. She grabbed my hand and pulled me up too.
Nobody but me.
“Do you like games?”, she asked me and I shrugged my shoulders. Anika looked at me confused. I just nodded for her sake.
She smiled brightly and grabbed the box filled with cards. We spent the rest of the afternoon playing games. And she'd always whine when she'd lose. Hours later, she decided to leave and as much annoyed I was to have her... I didn't want to let her go.
I stood there in front of the door, with my hands in my pocket. I looked at her. Maybe asking her to stay wasn't bad. Anika seemed weirdly comfortable with me.
“Y-you could st-stay?”, I suggested and she looked at me. A second later, she was smiling again. Did she ever stop?
Would I like her to?
“I don't want to overstay”, she said while looking at the floor. I opened my mouth to say something, but she looked up.
“Because I'd like to visit you again and I don't want you to get bored of me till then”, she said and I just nodded. I couldn't force her to.
Anika stepped closer and took me by surprise when I felt her soft lips against my cheek. I looked at her surprised.
“Goodbye, Shivaay”, she said and walked away.
And even though she was long gone, I couldn't look away. My hands still pressed against the place where just a moment ago her lips rested.
What was wrong with me?
