NINE: BREAK OF DAWN

She woke up with a start, immediately sitting upright in her bed and looking around frantically. Her breathing was rapid, and beads of sweat formed at her hairline and down her back.

It was nighttime, presumably a few hours before dawn. Sòl scrambled to turn her bedside lamp on, trying to compose herself. She looked around her dim room helplessly, trying to control her breathing and closing her eyes. A hand was pressed to her chest as she got up, quickly dressing into something more presentable for the outside. She was going to her happy place to calm down.

She stumbled blindly around her house, knocking multiple things over and even breaking smaller items, but she couldn't help it; she needed to go and she needed to go now. The air outside was cool, almost chilly, as she briskly strolled away from her home and out of New Asgard, leaving her horse Rose behind. She didn't need her this time, she didn't want her to come.

Her coarse hair was loosely flowing around her head, and there were small strands and flyaways that made their way to her face. She tucked a strand behind her ear and continued to walk, hugging herself as she ventured on.

Her favorite place was a mile away, her eyes were tired but she needed this air, this time to think and escape her troubles. Little did she know, her trouble was always going to rear its ugly head. Her favorite place was a large hill between New Asgard and the nearest town of Norway, it was massive, so massive it seemed impossible to actually go up and make it to the top. She did it though, her calves burning as she walked up the steep hill, but her brain not caring. She just needed to go.

Once at the top, Sòl looked towards the moon—the full moon. She grew weary, falling to her knees and letting the tears she had been ignoring flow down her face. She cried, hard, squeezing her eyes shut and digging her dainty fingers into the soil of the ground. Her small cries wouldn't be heard tonight, and she was okay with that.

Everything in her body hurt at this moment. Her chest was burning, her heartbeat quickening as her lungs struggled to catch air and her body shuddered with every breath. So many emotions went through her body, anger, sadness, helplessness, everything she tried to ignore it all to no avail. She felt sick to her stomach, but this cry was much needed.

It began to rain heavily after a few minutes, the cold rain water falling onto her body and causing her to shiver at the temperature. However, Sòl didn't care about the weather, letting her clothes and hair get soaked as the time passed.

And she kept crying, even as the moon was setting and the sun began to rise over the horizon. She stared at it helplessly, noticing the moon in the back disappear and everything she worried about intensified.

The moon was gone, and for a moment, so was her sanity.

In the morning, New Asgard was in a slight panic.
