TWENTY NINE: GARDEN

The Queen of Asgard stood in the doorway of the princess' room, her arms folded across her chest and a blank expression on her face. She watched silently as the one year old cried below her, her face in an almost permanent grimace and her little hands and feet kicking at the carpeted floor.

The tiny princess had already trashed her room, thrown clothes out of the dresser, toys thrown to the other side, crib knocked over, and any lotion or baby oil spilled on the carpet. She did all of this herself, and in such a short amount of time.

Magnolia was having a tantrum.

More specifically, Magnolia was having a tantrum over apple juice.

It was around noon, and like always, Sòl wanted to tend to her crops and trees. She needed to get fresh produce for the kitchen in general, so she spent plenty of time doing that with Magnolia by her side. Like always. But today, Magnolia seemed to have wanted to test her mother's patience, digging up holes around her vegetables and squishing fruit that hadn't fully ripened. Sòl had grown irritated rather quickly, cutting her gardening short and pulling the princess inside.

The actual tantrum began when Magnolia kept whispering 'juice' while Sòl was trying to silently clean her anger away, and the mother genuinely didn't hear her, but the baby got upset anyway. She ran to her room and closed the door screaming, and then things began hitting the floor.

And Sòl watched most of it, surprised at how the one year old could literally climb to great lengths just to get her point across. But the queen didn't care.

"Is she done?" Thor asked, putting a shirt on as he left their shared room.

"No. Can you help me pick my apples?"

"Sòl—"

"Thor," Sòl stared pointedly at him, to which he immediately obliged. It was definitely harder for him to be strict with Magnolia, since he was so happy-go-lucky in general, but he would almost always stick with Sòl when it came to parenting.

Plus, she was very angry and he chose to stay on her good side.

"Good," she then faked a smile, closing the door and letting Magnolia finish her tantrum alone. Thor followed her outside to the apple tree in their backyard, holding his wife's hand as they walked past the now ugly garden and towards the untouched trees.

"The oranges look great," he commended, looking at another tree not too far from the apples.

"I'll give it another week," Sòl muttered, "then I think they're okay to pick," she handed him the basket and got ready to climb the tree, "I'm trying to get a good amount, because Brunnhilde likes them. And I'm also giving all the old ones to our horses."
