The Sleepover

Katie's POV

"Hello little girl!"

"Umm... I'm looking for the man who lives here." I say holding up the papers.

"I'm sorry to say that be recently passed away, I am his daughter and the dog belongs to me." She says. The women looks to be around late 30s, early 40s maybe.

"Well, then, you can sign these papers." I say handing her the papers.

"How much money do I get?" She asks.

"I don't know." I say.

"Well your helpful." She says in an annoyed and sarcastic tone. She takes out a pen and I watch her eyes scan the paper.

She looks at me then at the papers and then me again. "If I keep the her, she will remind me too much of my father and I won't want to keep her for very long."

She starts to sign the papers. How could a man so mean make a women so nice? I don't question it. She hands me the papers and I check to see if she actually did sign them. She did.

"Thank you so so so much ma'am. Have a nice life!" I say, then I sprint to the clinic.

"Jessie! Jessie! I got the papers!!" I say.

"Good work. I have Cali right here." She says taking the papers and giving me Cali.

"The second I find Skye a good home I promise I'll take her home." I say.

"We can't hold her for very much longer. Think you can find Skye a home by the end of the week?"

"End of the week? I can try." I say kissing the tiny ball of fur. "For Cali"

Chase's POV

"Chase, can we talk in private?"

"Yeah sure Skye" I say.

"As much as I don't want to face the truth, you and I both know it's coming." She pauses. "It's not going to be like this forever. I'm going to find a new home with new owners and I might never see you again."

"No matter what happens Skye I promise, you will always have a special place in my heart." I say choking on my last word.

We hug for a long time and when we let go she smiles.

"I'm tired" She says.

"What to watch a movie?" I say.

"Oh my pup! Have you seen Hotel for Dogs?" She yips.

"Yeah, like once I think" I say.

"I love that movie! We have to watch it!"

The credits start to roll but she's already asleep and has been for the last hour of the movie. I curl my body around her protectively and drift asleep myself.

Ryder's POV

"What are you talking about? I am their son and the major told me I could get my money this way!"

"I'm sorry a passport is not enough proof to show that these people are your parents."

"But they are my parents! Can't I please just get the money" I whine.

The lady behind the glass picks up the phone and dials a number. "Hello? Major Goodway?... good thank you. How are you?... So I have this boy here, Ryder... yes him and... oh yes ma'am... thank you good bye." She looks at me for a long second. "Would you like cash?"

"Yes, $50 please."

"Of course" She says handing me the money. "Have a good day."

"You too, thank you" I say walking out of the bank.

Some one running falls on top of me.

"I'm so sorry, Ryder?"

"Where were you going in such a rush Katie" I say getting up.

"Home. I have some business I need to take care of." Katie says.

"What type of business?" I ask. We start down the side walk to her home.

"I'm having some guests over tonight and I have to find a home for Skye by the end of the week." She says.

"Guests?"

"These 2 pups needed a place to rest for the night so I offered that they stay at my place."

"Do you need help? I can sleep over."

"5 dogs in my small clinic?" She says.

"We can do it! I just really want to meet them and I'm sure Marshall and Chase would want to see them too."

"Okay then. 5 dog sleepover at my house tonight."
