Maze Runner Imagines

Request #6

Here's another request, this time for @angelinaroodnat aka Angelina, who wanted either a Newt or a Gally short story. Sweet yet overprotective... It was hard to decide which character to choose, but I picked Gally. I know this isn't how the book goes, but hey, it's an imagine, right? Here it goes...

The day I found out that the "Ending" Teresa had supposedly triggered was serious was rough. I felt knots forming in my stomach as I paced around the Glade, my focus on the ground ahead of me as I lost myself in deep thoughts. I got a headache thinking of staying overnight in the Maze, and I got a heartache thinking of leaving Gally behind, since he was refusing to come along. I hated the fact that the Changing affected him permanently. Sometimes he didn't seem to have human-like emotions, and that terrified me. I think I was on my forth lap or so when he himself came to chat with me. "I take it you've heard the news?" Gally asked, grabbing both of my hands in his. I sighed and nodded.

"Are you scared?" he asked calmly, looking me straight in the eye.

"Of course, especially if you're staying. Why won't you come?" I asked, my heart getting heavy once more.

"I... I can't. I'm not sure." He seemed to regain the confidence in his voice as he added, "I cannot come, but I will fight for you as long as you and I are together with these Grievers out."

I nodded and turned away, looking at the walls that refused to lock out those monsters. "I always thought you said you'd do anything to get out of this maze with me and have a normal life together?" I pointed out, tears starting to fill my eyes. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but nothing came out. He simply began to walk away, leaving me alone.

As the time of the Grievers would appear neared, the Keepers, Teresa, and Thomas were prepping for whatever WICKED was going to throw our way. All we had to do was last one night with the massive beasts, and then we were off to find a way out of the maze, however long it would take. I remember the most intense moment was in the Homestead, when we all sat in the dark waiting for the Grievers to pass by. That was when Gally seemed fully possessed. He started to rip off the boards nailed quickly unto the wall and growling how the entire scheme was hopeless. Newt tried to stop him, but only got injured by Gally's senseless act of swinging the board to Newt's head. I rushed to help him, but Gally told me harshly,"You better leave him alone. You're mine, Angelina." I backed away slowly. Thomas came to help Newt and with that, Gally disappeared with the glistening spider-devils.

The next morning, we all came rushing out to leave for the Maze. My eyes still red and swollen from the continuous tears, and the sleepless night. The Gladers found Gally's body on the ground in front of the homestead; motionless. He finally woke up and held his head and cringed. I hugged him immediately. "I'm sorry, Angelina, I had to sacrifice myself... I couldn't let them take you." I was confused. "Why did you try to escape, then?" I asked.

"I-I was taken over, or something like that. Once I came to my senses, more or less, I knew they only took one of us a night, I promised myself that one wouldn't be you. I love you so much."

"And you really proved it. I love you too, Gally."

He placed one hand on my cheek weakly, and I leaned in for a kiss. It was long and perfect.

"I've decided to come along," he declared, "but not because I trust that shank, Thomas, because I want to be with you, and this is our only chance to live that normal life I was talking to you about. I really hope that klunkhead knows what he's talking about, our I'll break his shuck neck.l

"There's the Gally I know and love," I smiled. I kissed him again.
