Lex's eyes fluttered open. Edith quickly let go of his hand and sat on his bed.
"You're okay." She smiled with relief, seen as she had been so worried about the boy. The doctors said he had a fifty/fifty chance of making it.
It was all up to him.
"I'm not going down without a bloody fight." He tried to laugh but wince instead. "I think I've got some explaining to do." Lex slowly sat up with the help of Edith. "He's happy." Edith furrowed her brows in confusion. "Willie. He's happy."
Edith looked to the floor and picked at her red painted nails.
"He left."
"He told me to tell you that he's happy, he left because you need to learn how to be independent. That you can count on yourself. He told me to tell you that he believes in you. He made me promise to take care of you. That's why I didn't leave you in that house. It's why I couldn't leave you. He cared for you so much. Edith he loved you. You were his baby sister. It shocked us all how close you both became." Lex paused, he could see tears rolling down her cheeks. "Hey, don't cry."
"I drove him away didn't I? He didn't want the burden of looking after me? Of helping me." Edith had so many questions racing through her head.
"No Edith. No. He didn't want to leave. I could hear it in his voice. It was killing him to leave you." Lex said placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Swear to me?" Edith turned to face him.
"I swear to you." He nodded.

It had been months since what happened with the hillbilly's, since Lex got shot, since Willie left and since Marcus declared his love for Edith... and Maria.
Edith had started to shut herself out once again, only talking to Thomas and Lex. Her brother and her best friend.
The only ones who never let her down.
The ones, despite everything, that stuck by her side.
Marcus was desperate to talk to Edith, but she didn't want to see him. He wanted to know what he had said. What he did so wrong.
"You coming Edith?" Lex questioned with a smirk as he leaned on her door frame.
Edith looked up with a small smile. Although he had his wounds that were still healing, he was back to his usual self. Edith furrowed her brows,
"Where to you ask?" He chuckled. "You'll find out." Edith shook her head, trying to hide the smile. Lex offered his hand out and helped her up from the bed.
Lex guided Edith to Willies room. She had no idea why he was doing this. Did she do something to hurt him and he wanted to hurt her too?
"Close your eyes." Lex instructed.
