Inspired by Day6's song : Wanna Go Back
---
"Hey, Y/N?" Bestfriend!Chenle spoke, breaking the silence between you two.
"Hm?" You replied, turning your head towards the boy.
Chilling on your apartment's rooftop wasn't such a lost cost after all. Bringing pillows up and some blankets to keep you warm, a rolled carpet, Chenle's movie hard disk and his laptop really made that old boring place into a comfortable hanging out place. Although Chenle offered you to come and chill on his much more comfier rooftop, you politely rejected his offer as you invited him to hang out on your rooftop instead. He was a bit hesitant at first because he knows how high your apartment's building is. He was afraid that one of you might catch a cold. But you reassured him that the rooftop had half walls could block some of the wind when you lay down.
Chenle never went to your rooftop, but the minute he stepped on the concrete floor, his eyes lit up at the amazing view in front of him. The half-moon shone brightly in the clear night sky, accompanied by twinkling stars that were scattered all over. The bright lights from the city and from the other buildings somehow managed to illuminate the rooftop perfectly.
You were both lying on the carpet that you spread out. You were in sweats and one of Chenle's hoodies like always. Chenle wore his usual black T-shirt and basketball shorts. His new hair watching perfectly with the stripes on his shorts. Cute.
"Do you..." He trailed off, taking a deep breath.
"Do you miss your childhood?" He asked, sighing. His eyes are still on the starry sky.
You were perplexed by his sudden question. You blinked your eyes before humming, trying to think of an answer.
You were still confused as to why Chenle was asking this sort of question. Did he ask you because he didn't know your childhood? that would be impossible, he's your childhood best friend for goodness sake. You couldn't recall a day you had where Chenle's not with you. It's like your joy of childhood is with him.
"What part of my childhood should I be missing, Chenle?" You chuckled.
The boy beside you let out a frustrated sigh.
"A lot. I mean, you're not living with your parents anymore, You're living here in this apartment; alone. You have responsibilities now and it feels like the world changed. Like, it wasn't what you remembered back then. It's hard living in this world." Chenle spoke.
You pursed your lips at Chenle's response.
It's true though.
You and Chenle luckily got into the same university. The university was miles away from your house, so you had to rent an apartment, meanwhile, Chenle has some relatives that lived around the area. You've been struggling to find a part-time job so you could pay the rent even though your parents send you a good amount of money, you figured that you didn't want to depend on your parents too much.
These past few weeks, you've learned a lot of things. People that seemed nice can actually backstab you, and people who you thought you can't trust turns into one of your most trusted friends. You learned that the world is cruel, like the ones in movies and novels. You had to admit that you didn't believe it at first, but when you saw the evidence with your own two eyes, you have a hard time not believing.
You let out a sigh, looking back up to the twinkling stars. Now that Chenle mentioned it, it is hard.
"Yeah, it changed; some good, some bad. But, that's just adult life I guess," You answered, but it seems like your best friend isn't satisfied with your answer.
"But like," Chenle groaned in frustration, "Don't you want to go back? Where you can be anything you dreamed of, where you had nothing to worry about, nothing scares you except the monsters in the closet," he started,
You scooted closer towards him, leaning your head on your forearm, listening to his raspy voice.
"It's like, in a blink of an eye I became an adult," Chenle sighed,
Your heart ached at his words. Staring at him with pity, you decided to speak.
"I actually feel that way too," Your answer made Chenle turn his head towards you.
"Back then, I had so many things I wanted to do, it was so hard to choose because everything seemed like it was a great option, but now..." You trailed off, looking anywhere but at the boy.
"Now you don't know what you wanna do, huh?" Chenle finished,
Your eyes met his, suddenly felt teary when you saw that a tear has already rolled down on the boy's cheeks.
"I always felt that way," You murmured, loud enough for Chenle to hear. The hint of sadness in your tone is what made Chenle turned his body to you.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, looking at you as he sniffled.
You smiled to yourself, tears threatening to spill. Honestly, what did you do to have a best friend as caring as Chenle?
"Well, I didn't think it was a big deal. Because I have you, Chenle," You let out a soft chuckle. Chenle's eyebrows lifted in shock, his eyes fluttering close a few times.
"M-Me?"
"Yep," You chuckled, looking back up to the sky.
"You've been with me since diapers, Chenle. You were always there for me and you're still with me until now. So many obstacles were thrown at us, but we survived, right?"
Chenle nodded.
"I thought that whatever obstacles are thrown at us, You and I would go through it together. So, when I thought about adulthood, I relaxed, knowing that you'll be there with me, just like how I'll be there for you." You plastered a reassuring smile at Chenle to which he replied with a pity laugh before bursting into tears.
"Yah, yah, why are you crying??" You panicked. You sat up, getting on your knees as you crawled towards Chenle, stopping in front of him. Chenle turned around, prompting his body with his elbows as he covered his face.
You helped Chenle sat up, holding his hands in yours as he sobbed loudly.
"Chenle..." You whined, trying to stop his crying.
"I'm sorry, I just- Thank you," He said, before launching himself towards you in a crushing hug. nonetheless, you hugged back.
Both of you stood there in comfortable silence as Chenle's breath calmed.
"But don't you wish that you would go back again? just one more time," He spoke, voice still cracking.
"Of course. I would love to experience everything with you all over again," You smiled, hugging him impossibly closer.
