Steve looked up at the sky in shock as the Leviathan flew out, he pressed his earpiece,
"Stark, are you seeing this?"
"I'm seeing, still working on believing." Came his oddly serious remark, "Where's Banner or, better yet, Eve? Have either of them shown up yet?"
"Banner?"
"Just keep me posted. Jarvis, find me a soft spot." Iron Man ordered, flying parallel with the huge creature that easily knocked down part of a building. From the ground, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Captain America took cover behind an upside down taxi. Watching as Loki and a few of his soldiers fly overhead, firing down onto the streets at the civilians. Causing explosions and casualties. Unable to sit in one place like a good soldier he headed towards the edge of the bridge, watching terrified people run from Loki. Looking over their shoulders, not even realizing they were headed into even more danger.
"Those people need assistance down there."
He turns to see Natasha pull out both pistols, firing at the incoming aliens.
"We got this. Go." She reassured.
He turned towards the archer who was taking in the scene, bow ready.
"You think you can hold them off?"
"Captain." He smirked a bit, the look all to similar to Eve as he pulled a trigger on his bow. An arrow mechanically chosen, "It would be my genuine pleasure."
Clint Barton shot an arrow into a creature's head with as much accuracy as Eve is with her knives. The arrow obviously hit it's mark but also shot bullets into the surrounding enemy. Steve jumped down to the street below, racing towards the plaza. Jumping over exploding cars with ease. Mentally hearing Eve scold him for doing stupid shit. Nat smirked when she saw Steve take off with impressive speed, covering Clint as he ran over to a bus full of people. Terrified parents were holding their children out their windows for Hawkeye to take. Clint hauled opened the jammed doors, people began to run out as Clint turned to shoot arrows at incoming Chitauri. Hitting his mark each time,
"Just like Budapest all over again!" Natasha comments casually.
"You and I remember Budapest very differently." He muttered.
She smirked before letting her facade fall for a moment,
"Do you think Eve is really coming?"
"Nat, you know Eve would never back down from a fight."
She chuckled softly as fond memories rose up in her mind.Cops littered the streets in packs, shooting pointlessly at the flying chariots. Acting more of a nuisance than actually helping. A young cop ran over to his sergeant,
"We need to get out! They gotta bring the National Guard!" He spoke in a hurried panic
"National Guard? Does the army know what's happening here?"
"Do we?"
Steve jumped on top of the nearest police car, they look up at him like he was insane. Steve mentally heard Eve reprimand him for his insecurities at a time like this,
'Don't lose your head just yet Spangles.'
He held his head high as he started barking out orders.
"I need men in these buildings. There are people inside that can run into the line of fire. You take them through the basement or through the subway. You keep them off the streets. I need a perimeter as far back as 39th."
"Why the hell should I take orders from you?"
One of the cars behind Steve exploded. He turned in time to deflect an energy blast. Turning quickly to punch away the nearest alien, kicking the next one with so much force the creature flew backwards. He grabbed Alien#1's gun, pointing it at another incoming enemy before easily cutting through the Alien's wrist to disarm him. Knocking the creature away easily. The Sargent turned to order his men,
"I need men in those buildings, lead the people down and away from the streets." He spoke into his radio, "I need a perimeter as far back as 39th."
Cap hid his victorious grin as he turned to get back to the bridge.Hawkeye struck at the right moment, tripping a Chitauri soldier and ramming and arrow into it's throat. He looked over to see Black Widow had somehow gotten her hands onto one of the alien energy riffles and fought off incoming enemies swiftly. Cap threw his shield to discombobulate another soldier, fighting the aliens with as much strength as the serum cursed him with. The three were almost overwhelmed when lightning struck the Chitauri around them. The shockwave strong enough to buy them some time to take a breather. Thor dropped onto the ground, a small injury at his ribs causing him to stumble ever so slightly,
"What's the story upstairs?" Steve asked, full on Captain America mode
"The powers surrounding the cube is impenetrable." He informed them bitterly,
"Thor's right." Tony piped up through the comms, "We gotta deal with these guys."
"How do we do this?"
"As a team."
"I have unfinished business with Loki." Thor reminded them,
"Yeah? get in line." The archer grumbled while adjusting his arrowhead
"Save it." Cap barked, "Loki's gonna keep this fight focused on us and that's what we need. Without him these things could run wild. We got Stark up top, he's gonna need us..."
They all heard a small petite honk and a horrible noise coming from a dying engine. They turned to see Banner arriving, riding a small motorbike that was an ugly shade of brown. He got off, even going as far as putting down the little kick stand, before looking around at the city in chaos.
"So, this all seems...horrible." He noted
"I've seen worse." Nat spoke softly while looking him over.
"Sorry." He muttered shamefully
No. We could use a little, worse." She attempted to reassure, but wasn't exactly positive on how he would respond to her words of comfort.
"Stark? We got him."
"Banner?"
"Just like you said."
"Then tell him to suit up. I'm bringing the party to you."
They saw Iron Man round a corner smoothly, only for a huge Chitauri Leviathan following him closely. Letting out an impatient roar.
"I...I don't see how that's a party..." Romanoff stuttered unhappily.
Tony swooped down closer to the street, the beast following his track closely, yet still wasn't close enough to the street from Hulk to get it without jumping up. Banner took a breath while turning to his new team, Cap looked at him with some worry as the scientist started walking towards the beast.
"Dr. Banner. Now might be a really good time for you to get angry."
Bruce looked to the sky, noticing a white streak swiftly coming their way. Hulk practically purred from deep within his mind. 'Friend'. He turned to look at Steve, smiling calmly,
"That's my secret, Captain. I'm always angry."
Bruce turned just as a high pitched shriek echoed throughout the city as something pierced back into the sound barrier, slowing down but still coming on at an impressive speed. They all sighed in relief as Bruce slowly started to grow in size and muscle mass, skin turning green. Clint watched as his big sister easily flew straight through the creatures back and out it's stomach, causing it enough pain to drop closer to the ground. Low enough for Hulk to punch it's nose guard with so much force it dented the armored headpiece. The creature flipped over as it rose over the Avengers somewhat harmlessly. While in mid flight, Iron Man extended his arm to shoot out a rocket at the soft spot Eve had created. The Leviathan exploded into flames, Eve shot off like a missile to cover her brother with her own body. Metal armor and chunks of alien steak(cooked well done) bouncing harmlessly off of her back. She looked over to see Hulk and Thor just basking in the flames while Spangles and Tasha were underneath his iconic shield. Once the explosion cleared, Eve stood up straight while readying her blades. A small, victorious smirk on her soot covered face as she listened to the aliens collectively roar out in horror. She stood between her little brother and her possible soulmate. One nocked in an arrow while the other twirled his hammer to get a better grip, they all were ready for a battle.
