Eve was dressed only in a black sports bra and spandex. She was in a handstand position with her legs in a splits. She looked over when someone pounded at her door,
"Eve? Are you in there?" Steve called in politely.
She opened up the door, not caring that she technically was indecent for his old man eyes.
"What's up Spangles?"
"Can I come in?"
She moved to the side,
"Make yourself at home." She shrugged.
He plopped down on her bed heavily, running his hand over his face. She sat next to him, Flicking her messy braid over her shoulder,
"So, what's got your patriotic panties in a bunch?"
"Stark." He grumbled.
She gestured for him to continue.
"Apparently he thinks something about SHIELD's plan with the Tesseract isn't as honorable as they're selling. So, he's actively hacking the system to unbury every secret SHIELD has tried to hide. Ever."
"I have to admit, that's pretty damn impressive."
"Do you think SHIELD is hiding something?"
"Of course they are. That's one of the reasons I ran when I did."
"You were an Agent? Did anyone find out about..." He trailed off when she sent him a message clear through her eyes.
"No. And they never will." She practically growled, "The world isn't exactly a welcoming place for people like me."
"I'm sorry."
"Steve, you've done nothing wrong except for being a loyal soldier. Unfortunately, in this time century that's gonna cost you. You're not asking the right questions. SHIELD is an intelligence organization that fears intelligence. That is historically impossible. They're no doubt hiding something from us. The real problem is, do you want to ask the right questions?"
He looked away from her, eyes landing on an aged photo that was resting on her bed. It was from a newspaper clipping, printed in black and white, but he could clearly tell the man was of color. Wearing an exact copy of her uniform. He was walking through chaos calmly, looking intent to get to his goal with the police backing him,

and if he squinted, Steve could faintly see bullets that were about to hit him. She quickly shoved the photo beneath her pillow, he didn't push it. Turning to look at her once again,
"Do you want to go digging for answers with me?"
"Hell yeah. Let me put my uniform on."
He grinned happily, leaving to give her privacy.

The two walked down quite a few hallways until they saw a door leading to storage, except there were more cameras here than anywhere else. Steve tried to pry the door open but it only moved a bit. He smiled sheepishly at her, she smirked cockily,
"Um...how strong are you?"
"Step aside chump." Eve chuckled, cracking her knuckles.
The woman gripped the edge with one hand and opened the door easily, gesturing for him to go inside first. Inside they observed metal crates stacked on top of each other. While Steve leaped up onto the second level, Eve stayed on the first. Taking in the uniforms that should've been destroyed years ago. Steve cracked open one of the crates and froze. She looked up to see him holding a large gun.
"Hydra?" She questioned.
He nodded stiffly. His hardened eyes looking deep into hers,
"I think it's time we start asking questions." He growled.

The two strode into Banner's lab, seeing Tony, Bruce, and Fury arguing. They entered just as Tony asked,
"What's PHASE 2?"
Steve dropped the Hydra Assault Rifle onto the table violently. The three turned to see Cap visibly pissed and Eve's eyes filled with a lethal calm.
"PHASE 2 is SHIELD uses the cube to make weapons." Then to Tony, "Sorry, the computer was moving a little slow."
"Rogers, we gathered everything related to the Tesseract. This does not mean that we're..."
"I'm sorry, Nick."
Tony moved the computer screen towards Fury which shows plans of the weapons. Eve gritted her teeth together,
"What were you lying?"
"I was wrong, director. The world hasn't changed a bit."
Then Thor and Natasha decided to join the party, but the redhead's eyes was only for Bruce. Who turned to her with rage in his eyes,
"Did you know about this?" He questioned angrily,
"You wanna think about removing yourself from this environment, doctor?" She countered.
"I was in Calcutta, I was pretty well removed."
"Loki's manipulating you."
"And you've been doing what exactly?"
"You didn't come here because I bat my eyelashes at you." She hissed, Eve could see her hand inch towards her gun.
The blonde stealthily moved next to the redhead, placing her hand on the woman's lower back comfortingly. Natasha relaxed instantly before shifting away slightly,
"Yeah, and I'm not leaving because suddenly you get a little twitchy. I'd like to know why SHIELD is using the Tesseract to build weapons of mass destruction.
Nick sighed, "It's because of him."
He points at Thor. The poor man looked stunned, pointing to himself as if to clarify,
"Me?"
"Last year earth had a visitor from another planet who had a grudge match that leveled a small town. We learned that not only are we not alone, but we are hopelessly, hilariously, outgunned."
"My people want nothing but peace with your planet."
"But you're not the only people out there, are you? And, you're not the only threat. The world's filling up with people who can't be matched, they can't be controlled."
"Like you controlled the cube?"
"You're work with the Tesseract is what drew Loki to it, and his allies. It is the signal to all the realms that the earth is ready for a higher form of war!"
The team started to argue, Eve stuck to the shadows as she observed the blue gem from within the scepter glow brightly as the voices got louder. Then things started to get interesting when Stark and Rogers started facing off after Banner's time bomb comment,
He put his arm around Steve like they were old buddies,
"Why shouldn't the guy let off a little steam?"
The soldier pushed Tony off, "You know damn well why! Back off!"
Then, the two got face to face,
"Oh, I'm starting to want you to make me."
"Stark." Eve warned quietly.
"Big man in a suit of armor. Take that off, what are you?"
"Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist." He listed nonchalantly,
Natasha shrugged in agreement. Eve nodded.
"I know guys with none of that worth ten of you. Yeah, I've seen the footage." He leaned closer to Stark, "The only thing you really fight for is yourself. You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you."
"I think I would just cut the wire."
Steve smiled grimly, "Always a way out... You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero."
"Steve!" Eve hissed, seeing that finally made Tony snap,
"A hero? Like you? You're a lab rat, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle!"
Steve puffed up his chest. Eve hit her forehead with her hand, stress rising with the egos rubbing off one another in the room.
"Put on the suit, let's go a few rounds."
Thor laughed, "You people are so petty... and tiny."
She couldn't help but grunt in agreement on that. Watching as Tony moved away from Steve, rubbing his head.
"Yeah, this is a team..." Banner muttered
"Agent Romanoff, would you escort Dr.Banner back to his..."
"Where? You rented my room." He grumbled defensively,
"The cell was just in case..."
"In case you needed to kill me, but you can't! I know! I tried!" They all looked at him after that. Dead silence rang through her ears, "I got low. I didn't see an end, so I put a bullet in my mouth and the other guy spit it out! So I moved on. I focused on helping other people. I was good, until you dragged me back into this freak show and put everyone here at risk!" He turned to look at Romanoff, who visibly got nervous. Eve stood protectively in front of her, "You wanna know my secret, Agent Romanoff? You wanna know how I stay calm?"
He gripped the scepter tightly. Before anyone could speak or accidentally shoot the man, Eve strode up to him. Gently placing her hand over his,
"Bruce," She whispered, his eyes flashed a dark, unforgiving green when he turned to her, "Put down the scepter."
He looked shocked when he saw his hand gripping Loki's weapon. The computer beep broke the silence, Tony muttered 'got it' and moved to investigate. Banner put the scepter down,
"Sorry, kids. You don't get to see my little party trick after all."
"Located the Tesseract?" Thor asked awkwardly.
"I can get there faster." Stark started
"Look, all of us..." Steve interrupted.
"The Tesseract belongs on Asgard, no human is a match for it." Thor mentioned,
Tony turned to leave, but both Steve and Eve blocked his way,
"You're not going alone!" Steve snapped.
"You gonna stop me?"
"Put on the suit, let's find out."
"I'm not afraid to hit an old man." Stark snarled,
"Put on the fuckin' suit Anthony." Eve growled, tired of everything.
Banner said something in a tiny voice right before shit hit the fan. The next thing Eve could process, was that she was tackled to the ground by Steve. His arms wrapped around her protectively.
"Put on the suit!" Steve ordered.
"Yep!" Tony responded quickly,
Steve helped them both out of the lab.
