Eve pretended to sleep in a relaxed position from within the Quinjet. Her head pressed against the cool metal wall behind her, legs outstretched while her hands were casually laced over one of her hidden blades. Steve sat across from here, quietly going through the files as he learned about his fellow teammates. She heard he had landed on Hulk when she listened his usual roars.
"We're about forty minutes out from base, sir." The pilot informed their guide. Agent Coulson.
From his light footsteps he was closer to her now but facing Steve,
"So, this Doctor Banner was trying to replicate the serum that was used on me?"
"A lot of people were. You were the world's first superhero. Banner thought gamma radiation might hold the key to unlocking Erskine's original formula."
She heard a particularly nasty roar from his Tablet.
"Didn't really go his way, did it?"
"Not so much. When he's not that thing though, guy's like a Stephen Hawking..."
There was a pause, Eve sighed softly,
"He means, the little guy is an impossibly smart person." She quipped.
"Right," Coulson agreed, "I gotta say, it's an honor to meet you, officially."
Eve opened her eyes slightly. She just couldn't help herself when someone was about to crash and burn. Steve smiled politely at the Agent,
"I sort of met you, I mean, I watched you while you were sleeping."
She let out her usual snort as Steve looked down, embarrassed and awkward. Moving so he was next to the pilot. Only Coulson followed closely as he stumbled over his words. Desperately trying to fix his mistake,
"I mean, I was...I was present while you were unconscious from the ice. You know, it's really, it's just a...just a huge honor to have you on board."
"Well, I hope I'm the man for the job."
"Oh, you are. Absolutely. Uh...we've made some modifications to the uniform. I had a little design input." He added proudly.
Steve sent him a look, "The uniform? Aren't the stars and stripes a little... old fashioned?"
"With everything that's happening, the things that are about to come to light, people might just need a little old fashioned."
"Also, your ass looks damn good in those tights Cap." Eve smirked
The woman could tell Steve was trying to hide his reddened cheeks after her input.Eve felt the engines slowly shut down as they finally touched down on the Helicarrier. She stood, fiddling with one of her blades as they walked down the lowered ramp to meet a familiar red head. Phill stepped aside to introduce everyone,
"Agent Romanoff. Captain Rogers, and...uh you know Eve." He coughed, feeling the tension between the two.
"Ma'am." Steve nodded respectfully, taking in the area around him.
"Hi." The redhead turned to Coulson, completely ignoring Eve who took in her short hair, "They need you on the bridge. Face time."
"See you there."
He walked away swiftly. Leaving the three alone. Natasha gestured for them to follow her,
"There was quite the buzz around here, finding you in the ice. I thought Coulson was gonna swoon. Did he ask you to sign his Captain America trading cards yet?
Steve smothered a grin as Eve outright cackled,
"Trading cards?"
"They're vintage, he's very proud."
Up ahead there was a man who was probably aged by stress was trying to keep out of people's way but also trying to find his way around.
"Dr. Banner." The blonde called, getting his attention carefully.
The two shook hands, Eve decided to stay and watch the interaction,
"Oh, yeah. Hi. They told me you'd be coming." He spoke softly, a little tremor in his hands.
"Word is you can find the cube."
"Is that the only word on me?" He asked bitterly.
"Only word I care about." He reassured.
Banner smiled faintly, then gestured to everything going on around them,
"Must be strange for you, all of this."
Well, this is actually kind of familiar."
"Just wait for it." Eve chuckled, "I'm gettin' that ten bucks."
Steve sent her a playful smirk while Banner looked in awe just to be in her presence. Having read her file when he got onto base. Before he could stutter out an introduction, Natasha interrupted them,
"Gentlemen, you may wanna step inside in a minute. It's gonna get a little hard to breathe."
As if on cue, the Helicarrier started to shake as it lifted its great turbines.
"Is this is a submarine?" Steve chuckled breathlessly, completely in awe.
"Really? They wanted me in a submerged pressurized metal container?"
They moved closer to the edge of see the true reason for the trembling. Bruce smiled, shouting over the roaring wind a bit sarcastically,
"OH, NO. THIS IS MUCH WORSE!"
Eve grinned. Knowing good and damn well she had won the bet. From within the main room, Eve sat on the nearest chair and put her feet up on the table.
Agent Maria Hill spoke up professionally, "We're at lock, sir."
Nicholas nodded, "Good. Let's vanish." He turned to see Eve sitting like she was a savage and the two men he was glad to have on board, "Gentlemen."
Steve passed a smug Eve her ten bucks as he took in the control room. Bruce and Fury shake hands, though Eve saw Banner's reluctance.
"Doctor, thank you for coming."
"Thanks for asking nicely. So, uh... how long am I staying?"
"Once we get our hands on the Tesseract, you're in the clear."
"And where are you with that?" Eve asked nonchalantly from her seat, examining her red stained nails.
Nick turned to Agent Coulson, but Eve's eyes saw Natasha was studying on an image of Clint Barton on the computer screen.
"We're sweeping every wirelessly accessible camera on the planet. Cellphones, laptops. If it's connected to a satellite, it's eyes and ears for us." He informed them
"That's still not gonna find them in time." Both Natasha and Eve spoke up, then proceeded to give each other guarded looks.
"You have to narrow the field. How many spectrometers do you have access to?"
"How many are there?" Fury countered.
"Call every lab you know, tell them to put the spectrometers on the roof and calibrate them for gamma rays. I'll rough out a tracking algorithm based on cluster recognition. At least we could rule out a few places. Do you have somewhere for me to work?"
"Agent Romanoff, would you show Dr.Banner to his laboratory, please." He ordered.
Natasha nodded, leading Banner down the hall confidently,
"You're gonna love it, Doc. We got all the toys." She informed him.The woman slept in her cot, flat on her back. Hands laced beneath her pillow. When her door slid open, she didn't stir. A large hand moved to touch her shoulder when Eve exploded with motion. She launched herself onto her attacker. Bringing him to the ground, straddling narrow hips with two blades crossed at the intruder's throat. She blinked the sleepiness out of her greenish eyes, finally processing who she had pinned.
"Oh, hey Steve." She yawned, sheathing her knives before stretching out her back.
He blushed brightly at the compromising position they were in. She gently stood up, trying not to accidentally hurt him in any way. Her dirty blonde hair was hanging below her shoulders messily.
"Fury has a job for us."
She groaned,
"Alright, I'll be there soon."
He nodded. Awkwardly shuffling out of her room. Eve chuckled before opening the locker in her room. Finally seeing her updated uniform that would hug her body like a second skin yet still conservative, alongside snug boots that were comfortable enough to run in. The woman got dressed into her black bodysuit with a tall turtleneck, a dark crimson streak running from her shoulders across her chest with an eagle imprinted on her back in perfect detail. Sliding her blades in various places on her body. Then tying her hair up with deft fingers. She checked her fingerless gloves for any tears before heading out of her locker area to find Steve.(Hairstyle in mind)
