~10 years later~

"Pa? Pa?" Emile's voice brings me out of my thoughts. I smile and pick him to put him on my knee.

"Yes?" I ask.

"I can't reach some of the tomatoes," He says, looking defeatedly at the ground.

"Come on, I'll help you before I have to go to work." I place my book open and face down over the arm of the sofa. We stand up and I carry the 5 year old into the garden. Patton and I adopted him 3 years ago on our 2 year wedding anniversary. We walk over to the tomato plant and I hold Emile while he picks the ones that are a bit higher up.

"Thank you, Papa," Emile grins holding the tomatoes. I smile and put him down. I watch as he runs into the kitchen calling for Patton. Adjusting my tie, I walk into the house.

"I'm off to work, I'll see you later sweetheart," I say giving Patton a kiss.

"It's a shame you have to go in on a Saturday." Patton sighs.

"Yeah, chances are we'll get there and they'll send us home again," I shrug as Patton kisses my cheek. I gently kiss Emile's forehead, "See you later, Emile."

"Bye, Papa," He waves at me and I walk out of the house.

Well, I wasn't wrong, as per usual. I got there and after everyone else arrived three decided they didn't need us at the lab after all. That's the third time his month.

"I'm home," I call walking in the front door.

"Hi, honey!" Patton calls and then Emile runs out of the front room and hugs my legs. I smile and pick him up.

"Uncle Roman and Uncle Virgil are here," He smiles and jumps out of my arms. Emile grabs my hand and pulls me into the front room.

"Hey, Lo," Virgil nods as I sit down.

"Salutations," I nod back as Emile starts playing with Roman. They're playing with some of Emile's teddies.

"Are you guys still thinking about adopting?" I ask and Virgil nods.

"Yeah we're gonna go down to the orphanage tomorrow." Virgil slumps his chair crossing his arms with a small smirk.

I open my mouth to reply but a phone rings. It's an obnoxiously loud disney song. Probably Roman.

"Hold on, that's me," Roman says standing up and ruffling Emile's hair. He giggles and then walks over to Virgil.

The vampire picks him up and sits Emile on his knee, "What have you done today, Emile?"

"I picked tomatoes and I made salad with Dad!" Emile grinned.

"Dad's an amazing chef," Virgil nods, "Shall we go and see him?"

Emile nods and Virgil stands up, holding him on his hip. As they get to the door, Roman comes in looking happy and like he's about to cry.

"You good?" Virgil asks.

"My dad has come home, he wants to have dinner with us tonight," Roman grins.

"That's great! It'll be nice to meet him," Virgil smiles.

"Don't worry, he'll love you," Roman sits next to me while Virgil takes Emile to the kitchen.

"Doesn't your dad work at area 51?" I ask.

"Yeah, he's coming home for a month though. Mum says he came back late last night," Roman explains his smile never leaving his face.

"What colour are his wings?" I question.

"Honestly, I can't remember," Roman sighs, "I haven't seen him for around 25 years."

I nodded, "Has he worked there for all that time then?"

"Yeah, he calls us once a year but that's it. It will be amazing to see him."

"Well, have fun."

We sit there for a moment in silence. We can hear Virgil, Emile and Patton talking in the kitchen.

"Do you want a drink?" I ask.

"God, yes," Roman nods and we walk into the kitchen.

Later that night, when Roman and Virgil have gone to get ready to see Roman's dad and Emile had gone to bed, Patton and I are lying on the lawn in the back garden. The stars shine above us and we try to spot constellations.

"Is that the big dipper?" Patton points at a group of stars in the sky.

"Yeah, it is," I nod. Patton curls up into my side placing a hand gently on my chest. He relaxes with a smile.

"I love you," Patton sighs.

"I love you more," I smile.

"Don't start a battle you can't win," Patton giggles.

"I only argue when I know I'm right."

"So do I."

"I guess, we'll be here all night then."

"I guess so." Patton kisses my nose gently and closes his eyes before falling asleep on my chest. I kiss his forehead and stare at the moon until I fall asleep.
