"This was fun," Patton smiles and buries his head in my neck.

"It was." I nod fiddling with the ends of his hair. I think this is how you play with hair. I'm not entirely sure.

"Do you know what Remy wanted to talk to Virgil about?" He asks.

"I don't know for certain but based on the argument that followed it, I'm guessing it was something to do with Deceit," I reply. Patton tenses slightly upon hearing Deceits name.

"Should we ask about it?"

"No!" Virgil calls from his room.

"Okey dokey," Patton sighs pulling the covers over the two of us, "What was it like growing up for you?"

I sigh as well and think back to growing up, "Well, I was born 1936 in England and as I aged in 3 years I had to join the army to fight in 1939 when world war 2 started. I fought in the army whilst the war went on, I didn't want to but I didn't really have a choice. I never met my father but I was quite close with my mother. I used to call her every week but when I came out as gay we fell apart and I moved to Florida. I've lived there for the last 30 years studying library books and then eventually decided I should go to school so that I could learn everything properly."

Patton nods.

"Can I ask you something?" I ask.

"I think you just did, Honey," Patton laughs.

"How come you changed school? It was halfway through our last year and I've been wondering about it for a while."

"Oh, there was a- a new kid in my old school. He joined year 10 at the start of the year and started to- to pick on me a bit, I told my mum and she moved me to the same school as you guys. It wasn't the first time this has happened, I've moved schools a lot."

He was abused and picked on? That's just cruel. I wonder why he got picked on. I don't want to ask in case I bring up some bad memories though.

"It's fine. It's in the past now," Patton whispers and kisses my cheek before curling up into me, "Goodnight, hun."

"Sweet dreams, Sweetheart," I reply switching off the lamp.

"Virgil, please sit down," Patton says for the eighth time this hour.  Virgil has been pacing around the front room for the last hour and a half.

"I can't," Virgil mumbles. Patton sighs and slumps in his seat.

"Everything will be ok, Virgil, don't worry," Roman says.

"It won't be ok. Deceit is in Menorca. If he knows where we are, which he probably already does, we are screwed with a capital 's'." Virgil hugs himself as he paces.

"Virgil," I say calmly.

"What?" He stops pacing and looks at me.

"Take two deep breaths." I wait as he does so, "Now tell me 5 things you can see."

"I don't know, a sofa, you, Patton, Roman, and the coffee table."

"Good now tell me 4 things you can touch. How do they feel?"

"What are you doing?"

"Just do it."

"Fine, I can feel the inside of my hoodie, it's fluffy; I can feel my phone and it's hard; I can feel the floor and it's cold and hard and I can feel my key in my pocket and it's mildly uncomfortable."

"Great, now tell me three things you can hear," I say and notice Roman and Patton looking at me with confused looks. I think.

"A car outside, people talking outside and Roman's heartbeat," Virgil looks across at Roman who blushes slightly.

"Brilliant. Now two things you can smell."

We watch as Virgil takes a deep breath in then says, "Chlorine from the pool and-"

He stops himself, frowning. Is everything okay? I take a deep breath in and I think I can smell it. Another vampire.

"Okay, lets move on. How do you feel right now."

"Terrified."

Patton looks up at Virgil at that with wide eyes, "Why? What's happened?"

Virgil looks down at Patton; he looks like he wants to say something. He doesn't but it looks like he does. Oh shit.

"Deceit!" I screech and he comes strutting around the corner and chuckles darkly. Patton backs further into the corner as Roman and I stand up.

"I'm not sure why you look surprised," Damien says to Virgil, "You know once you're in, you're in for life and neither one of us are dead yet."

"Debateable," Virgil growls, eyes, now, a dark red.

"It won't be after today," Damien smirks.

"Is that a fucking threat?" Roman asks, stepping forward towards the snake, head held high and shoulders back.

"No. It's a promise, darling." He turns to Patton who tries to put on a brave face but I can clearly hear his heart beating faster than normal. Damien smirks and I scowl at him. If he even touches Patton I swear to all things holy-

"How's your scar, Virgil?" Damien raises an eyebrow. I listen as Roman's heartbeat gets faster.

"Fan-fucking-tastic."

"I'm sorry I almost killed you." His eyes go up and to the left, a disapproving look morphing his face.

"And I'm sorry you didn't succeed."

"Virgil, no," Patton, Roman and I say simultaneously.

"I'll try harder this time." Damien produces a dagger from under his cape.

"No!" Roman cries and a bright flash fills the room. When the light clears, Roman is pressing a huge samurai sword with a golden hilt encrusted with red jewels to the smaller blade of Deceits dagger. He holds up surprisingly well but I can see sweat starting to bead on his forehead.

"Go!" Virgil shouts at me and My Patton.

"Where to?" I ask picking up Patton.

"I don't fucking know, anywhere!"

I sigh and start running out the door.
