Turns out we were flying through a thunder storm. All of us were aware of it now, apart from Samuel who was still fast asleep. The rude air hostesses were running up and down the aisle panicking, what more could you expect from human oranges? Well, I suppose the pilot would be in a calmer state of mind than the rest of us. Dan suggested that someone should check and see wether everything was okay, I guess he did value his life a bit, so together we made it past the panic stricken hostesses and into the cockpit. Things were worse than I had expected, the pilot and the copilot had both fainted. Brilliant!
Dan turned to me with that suspicious grin of his, "Know how to fly a plane?" He mocked.
I smirked, "Actually, I do. My Uncle used to be a pilot and some of the time they let me have a go on some of the simulators they use."
Dan was at a lose for words for once, he was dumbfounded. "Erm..." He thought up a good reply, "Any good?" That was it? The guy who never fails to make an annoying reply to everything, and that was it?
"Well, I guess you'll just have to wait and see." My turn for agitating replies!
"Right then," Dan said as he lifted the pilot out of the seat, and, not so gently put him down to one side.
"You're actually suggesting that I do this?" Now I was dumbfounded.
"Why not? Did you ever crash on one of those simulators?"
"No." I said defensively as I sat down and familiarised myself with the controls. "Why does everything nowadays have to be so high tech?"
"Perhaps we should first tell the passengers that they're in not-so-safe-hands."
"No chance. Two reasons. One, that would cause a panic if they found out that a child is guiding them to safety. Two, that is never what you do in a situation like this."
"Then what do you do, captain?"
"You contact the airport you're nearest to, state your situation, and then ask for an emergency landing."
"But we're over the middle of the ocean... What do we do now then?"
"Well, we aren't too far from land, but, the best thing to do is contact the nearest English speaking airport, or any airport and ask for a linguist..."
"And we're going to do?"
"Nearest airport and ask for a linguist if the receiver isn't English." I said leaning over to a switch, I paused. "Dan, you should speak. They'd panic too if they found out that I'm a kid."
He picked up the head set and put it on, he gave me the thumbs up and I flicked the switch to enable communication. I didn't pay attention to what he was saying, I was focusing on keeping the plane on course for land.
"Errrrr..." Dan mumbled as he nudged me purposefully.
"What?" I snapped irritably.
"No one's picking up."
"Great!" I cheered sarcastically. "Just what we need!"
"Are you sure?... It seems like we might die, are you sure this is great?"
"It's called sarcasm, dummy!" Is he really that stupid!
Anyway, there's no time for arguing we've got a plane to land! I was panicking far more than I was letting on, if Dan's plan was to eventually kill my parents I didn't want him to think I was weak like he thinks they are... Maybe he was panicking too? Nah, that's a stupid thing to say...
"Try waking the pilot up, even if it does mean slapping him a few times. Okay?"
"Sure. I didn't think that you'd approve of violence even in this situation."
"I'm not approving of it, it may be nessissary in this situation." I spoke the words coldly, almost ignoring what was going on. I was focusing on finding somewhere to land.
