A/N: Y'all what's up! Anyways, just wondering if any of y'all maybe wanted to make some covers or art for this book since my covers and artworks are always pretty crappy. Thanks! And sorry for this super short chapter.
Maia stirred in her sleep, the sunlight hitting her face. She yawned, then slowly sat up, rubbing her tired eyes. She looked around her for a moment, confused, then realized where she was. She was swaying gently in her family's white macrame hammock, with her new favorite novel resting on top of her. Maia checked her silver watch, it was five in the evening. "Good, I didn't sleep long," thought Maia. "Only half an hour." She swung her legs over the side of the hammock and slipped her brown feet into her Havaianas. (Brazilian flip-flops.)She shuffled through her back yard, feeling the long green grass barely brushing her feet over the straps of her sandals, with her hands in her pockets.
Today had been a relaxing day, she had spent it with her best friend Andréa, taking a walk in the park and getting some ice cream. It hadn't been a very cold day either, it had been quite pleasant weather for a day in Brazil during late May. Especially for being so close to the coast.
Maia slid open the glass sliding door to her family's small ecohouse and stepped in, breathing in the warm scent of her papai's acarajé (a deep-fried dish), the smell of peas frying in dendê (palm oil) filled the air.
"Papai," Maia called. "Cheira delicioso. O que eu posso fazer para te ajudar?" (It smells delicious. What can I do to help you?)
"Olá minha querida," (Hello, my darling.) Papai grunted, "Não precisa se preocupar, você faz sua lição de casa ou algo assim." (No need to worry, you do your homework or something.)
Maia chuckled. "OK, papai."
Maia walked past the kitchen, down the hall, and into her room, and gently closed her door. She ambled over to her bed and plopped down, sighing with content. She reached over to her nightstand, grabbing a canvas-covered book, decorated with small cornflower blue embroidered flowers, and a black ball-point pen. She cracked open the book and begin to write in small, neat print on the lined pages. "Today has been very relaxing. If only every day were like this. Then again, if every day were like this, I would get no work done..."
