I walk into my room and flop down on my bed. It’s now around five and I just got back from training at CSIS. It turns out that the exam was the attack Volant staged, they wanted to test us like it would be if Hecate actually attacked.
Suffice to say, we didn’t do very well, sure we won the battle but we were using hand-to-hand combat. They said that if we were to do that in a real battle we would be overcome very quickly. We ended up getting the ‘you-need-to-rely-on-your-instincts-and-the-talent-you-possess’ speech.
The fight didn’t take very long, so once it was over we continued to train before breaking for lunch. If you ask me, this reminds me all too much of school.
Looking up, I see Jade walk in, “Look alive Erin, mom’s in the driveway. Can’t have her getting suspicious now, can we?” She says before walking away.
Moving should be against the law after a workout like that.

The rest of the day is pretty uneventful, full of us just puttering around and relaxing. Until my mom gets a phone call that is.
“Girls, it’s your Aunt Beth,” she tells us after getting off the phone, “she’s fallen. Your Dad and I are going away for a couple days to care for her.”
“What about Uncle Don?” Jade asks.
“He’s busy with the store and you know them, they’re both on the older side. A fall at that age is always more serious.”
“So when are you leaving?”
“After dinner, and I want you girls to clean up, too.”
Not long after that my family ate dinner and then my parents left for my Aunt’s and Uncle’s house a couple hours away.
I watch their car pull out of the driveway and as soon as they are out of sight I hear a knocking at the door. Upon opening it, I see Volant standing there. As always, he’s dressed in the same outfit, a black suit and tie with a white shirt underneath. I wonder if he has multiple, or if he just wears the same on all the time, I bet that would start to smell. The only thing different is that he is holding his black, formfitting sunglasses in his hands, exposing his rich, leafy green eyes. My gosh, his eyes… if you look closely you see the rich green of his eyes gradually get lighter, very subtly, until it gets to an almost white colour surrounding his pupils. I find it stands out and blends perfectly with his brown hair that reminds me of marshmallows when you roast them over a campfire. Mmm, s’mores…
I pull myself from my mouth-watering thoughts to great Volant, “Hey, cutting it a little close aren’t you?” Referring to my parent’s car that just left. At this point, Jade has walked up behind me, joining in the conversation.
“You have a mission, I’m here to bring you in for debriefing,” he says cryptically. That’s all he says before walking to go get the others. Apparently, he’s here with his ‘I’m-still-your-superior-and-am-trying to-be-serious’ face. This should be fun.
Jade and I walk to their van and, looking around, I see Agent Red at Jacky’s house and Agent Cadwell at Kim’s house.
Anyway, a mission, our group finally has a mission! I wonder what it is. I can’t wait to see what the debrief is about! Although the fact that we have only been training for 3 months weighs down on me and makes me suddenly nervous. What if we aren’t ready? Either way, I don’t have any more time to think about it because everyone is piling into the van that will take us to CSIS.
I can’t sit still in my seat, the excitement and anxiousness overpowering any doubts or fears I have. Kim seems to notice this, “you okay, Erin?” She is clearly smirking at my wiggling.
