Meet and Greet
My light brown hair is strung up in a high ponytail that is flying behind me as I'm running the mile in gym class. Panting heavily, I try my best to push forward, determination lining my dark blue eyes; only a little farther Erin, only a little farther. I don't really like running, and today is not an exception, I only slow down a little when I hear my name.
"Erin! Come on, you can do it! A little faster and you will beat your fastest time!" It is my best friend, Kim Prodakin. Her chocolate brown hair is also up in a ponytail, and her blue eyes sparkle with excitement as she waves to me. Unlike me, Kim loves running; she does it all the time, even outside class, which is why it makes sense that she is the fifth fastest in our class. A couple seconds later and I reach the end of the mile.
"Nine minutes and twenty-six seconds, nice job King, that's your best time. You ladies can go change, class is over." My teacher says, giving me a high five.
"Erin! Way to go!" Kim says hugging me, "let's go change, I want lunch!" After changing back into our regular clothes, and grabbing our lunches, we head to the cafeteria. On our way there we see our other best friend, Mel at her locker. She is in the midst of shoving books roughly into the metal rectangle as we walk up to her. Her long sandy blonde hair falls in soft waves down her back, and her brown eyes don't hold their usual mischief, but instead are replaced with a sadness mixed with anger. Her red checks indicate that something embarrassing happened in class, or maybe tear stains, no defiantly embarrassment. As Kim and I stop beside her, Kim says, "Hey Mel! How's it going? Wait, are you blushing? Oh! Did that cute guy you like ask you out yet?"
Mel shook her head, "Not yet."
"She's embarrassed, Kim," I told her, nudging her lightly in the ribs.
"You know Erin, any other person would be slightly shocked by the fact you know that," Mel said, a little too loud. She is the outgoing one of the group, the type that always has a comeback and I'm more of the quiet type. But hey, the more outgoing people I hang out with, the less I need to talk.
"What happened?" Kim asks, her voice significantly quieter then Mel's was moments ago.
"Christina told a story from a party I went to last night; I would have rather it stayed quiet. This led into an argument between us, and let's just say she was pouting for the rest of class."
"I don't get it Mel; you put Christina, the school attention hog, in her place, won an argument against her, which isn't a surprise, and your class already knows that you love parties. What's to be embarrassed about? " I ask her.
"It's just the story she told," Mel shakes her head, obviously not wanting to elaborate and completely oblivious to the fact that her chemistry textbook is about to fall.
"The class probably won't even remember, they'll remember what happened after. Christina is the one who is going to be embarrassed. You're chemistry book is going to fall," I calmly state. Mel Whirls around to face her locker to see her chemistry book, she jumps backwards to try and avoid it. The textbook, however, continues to fall, until Kim caches it before it hits Mel in the face.
"Nice catch," Mel says, "now let's go eat." Once we reach the cafeteria, we search for our regular table. We see two girls, one with black hair and one with blonde hair, sitting at the table.
"Hi guys, how's it going?" Jacky, the blonde haired girl said, she also has bright green eyes that stand out against her hair.
"As good as school can be, how was your Physics test?" I ask Jacky while sitting beside Bonny, the girl with the black hair, her brown eyes focusing on her sandwich. Although, she isn't really concentrating on her sandwich, she is somewhere else, trying to decipher some sort of code. Bonny loves to play Sudoku, and do math problems; she is also very quiet, even quieter than me.
