Kidnapped or Recruited?
“Erin! Kim, Mel, Jacky and Bonny are here!”
“Thanks mom, be down in a sec!” I call down before running into the bathroom to fix my hair. I left the bathroom and I start looking for my backpack, after locating it, I slug it over my shoulders and dash down the stairs. “Hey guys, sorry I’m late.”
“Haha, it’s okay, after a life time of growing up with you, we all know that the members of the King family are always late,” Mel says.
“Ha-ha, oh you guys are funny,” I say sarcastically. “Bye mom. I’m going to school,” I call before heading out the door. We continue to talk until we reach the school.
“Well, now that we have reached school, we get to endure six hours of undeniable misery,” Bonny says flatly.
We all laughed at this before the warning bell rings. Breathing a sigh of dread, I start to walk towards my locker. “I’ll see you guys in first period, I need to get my books,” I call behind me.
“Later!” My friends call back. After dropping off my backpack and grabbing my chemistry binder, textbook and pencil case, I push the glasses on my face up and run towards my class, closing my locker in the process. I reach class not long after that and see that Kim, Bonny and Jacky have already arrived and are sitting in our regular seats. I walk over and sit beside them. Mel dashes into the room seconds before the final bell rings, earning her a disdained look from our teacher.
“Welcome, Class,” Our teacher, Mr. Stone begins, “I hope your weekend went well, but now we get into chemical bonding! The review sheet is already on your desk; I will give you half an hour to complete it and will take it up afterwards,” the teacher finishes talking and everyone gets to work.
The half hour is ticking by slowly and my friends and I finish our worksheets fifteen minutes early. We are now talking in the back of the classroom when something catches my eye. I nudge Bonny lightly in the side, “Hey guys, look over there,” I whisper, nodding towards the front of the classroom. There stand two men, both have black suits and sunglasses on, the one on the left has black hair and the other is bald.
“Who are they?” Jacky asks.
Thinking for a moment, I answer her, “Looks like some type of government; which means there is probably more outside.”
“How could you possibly know that?” Kim asks, flabbergasted.
“It’s an observation. Look at the way they’re acting, all professional and serious,” I reply without taking my eyes off of the two men. Mr. Stone and the men exchange a few words before he approaches the class.
“Melina Rougood, Jacklyn Cooker, Erin King, Bonny Laughendle and Kimberly Prodakin, please come up to the front, I need a word. The rest of the class please continue to work, you still have fifteen minutes.” We glance at each other wearily before slowly making our way to the front. I don’t even need to look behind me to know that the rest of the class is starring at us. Glancing at my friends again I can see they can feel the multiple sets of eyes drilling holes into the back of our heads as well. Jacky even has her hands balled into fists, trying to prevent herself from turning around and attacking some poor kid.
“Thank you, ladies,” says the stereotypical black-haired man, I mean seriously, where does the government find these guys? “You five need to come with us.”
“Why? So you can kidnap us, die our hair black and force us into a cliché black suit to be more government-y like?” Mel says crossing her arms to try and look more menacing to the six foot tall muscle man standing before us. However, I almost saw him flinch when Mel mentioned government. The action was so small though, it was like a fruit fly sneezing.
