You blinked as sunlight streamed into your eyes from your opened window, creating a ray down your entire room. You sat up and rubbed your eyes, lightly holding your stuffed fox plush to your chest. It's Sunday. What time is it? You turned to the side and fell back into your bed as your eyes caught the time. 9:32. Did I head back to bed after watching the stars? No, that couldn't be, you didn't remember walking back. The last thing you did remember was falling asleep. Did I fall asleep outside? But if I did, that means that- Your face heated up into a light pink as you came to your conclusion. Loki had carried you back to your room. He was the only one who was out there with you, and he definitely wasn't going to wake anyone up to do it for him. You clutched your plush closer to your chest as thoughts raced your head, why did he bring me back? Was it simply out of curtsy or was it- No, it was curtsy, just like when he stopped me from falling. Quit thinking about him, Y/N, he doesn't share your feelings, and even if he did, it's not like anyone would allow you to be together. Not that you would ever be together anyway.
You slid out of bed tiredly, opening up your drawer and picking out a casual outfit. You never had to pick out anything fancy, as the only times you really ever went out in public it was with a guard secretly following you and with Tony's complete permission, and ever since Nat joined the team, Tony had her check that you looked unlike yourself. You settled on a gray t-shirt with a galaxy cat on the front, a pair of bleached skinny jeans, a small pair of cat earrings, and a short green hoodie. You brushed your h/c hair into a casually messy style and walked out of the door, heading for the kitchen. The fact it was Sunday had nothing to do with your schedule, on a good day, everyone on the team was to busy with hero work to teach you, so had work assigned to do. On a worst case scenario, everyone was there and you had full classes with them all. While you loved time with the team, you secretly hoped that today you would just have work.
"There she is!" Tony swerved from across the other side of the room over to you, making his way across the chaotic room. It was quite the commotion. Steve was in his uniform, seemingly looking for his shield while Bucky helped. Nat was clipping in her various guns and weapons and talking to Bruce, who seemed very nervous. Hawkeye was clipping in his hearing aids while walking over to the corner, where Thor, Vision, and Wanda all stood, talking amongst each other. Loki was nowhere to be seen. "We got called out, all of us. Apparently it's something big." Tony sighed, standing in front of you. "I need you to stay here and-"
"Finish up my work because it's too dangerous for me to go. I know, dad." You had heard his excuses so many times you had them memorized. You never bothered to argue why you could never go when Wanda could, or the Spiderkid Tony told you about, but have never met. They both had less experience than you, and the Spider was still in Highschool.
"Well, yes." Tony sighed again. "But you have another job this time. I need you to watch Loki. None of us trust him enough to be in the fight with us, and everyone has to leave." Your eyes widened as the truth of the situation sunk in. You'd be alone in the tower with Loki for hours, with nothing to do for the better half of that time. You weren't quite sure if that was good or bad yet. "But if you aren't feeling up to watching him, then I can-" You interrupted Tony again.
"No! I mean, no. This is a great opportunity to prove myself, right? Besides, you guys all seem busy enough as it is, I don't want to bother you." Tony looked down at you, worry in his eyes.
"Dad. I know you don't really trust me to watch myself, but I'll be fine. You just have to promise that you'll be ok on this mission, ok?" Tony smiled and hugged you."I promise, y/n." He leaned back and handed you a tiny remote with a bright red button on the top. "And if anything goes wrong, just press this. It sends out emergency signals and shocks Loki." You sighed and took the remote. Tony would never just trust you to protect yourself, would he?
"Stark!" Thor boomed from across the room, where the rest of the team had assembled. "Our time for battle runs short, hurry." Tony nodded and walked over to them, waving to you one last time.
"Have fun without us, kiddo. Don't hesitate to use the combat training I gave you." Nat ruffled your hair as she passed, closing the elevator door behind her. Nat's combat lessons were one thing you would not be missing about today. They never failed to make you feel like collapsing. You sighed and walked over to the closest chair and sat down.
"Yo, F.R.I.D.A.Y. Can you pull up today's work folder from the team?" The work was usually mostly given out electronically, what wasn't was automatically translated.
"Here you are, Miss y/n." A blue screen materialized in front of you, along with a keyboard that slid out from the table. "I am assuming that you'd like to listen to your music playlist titled: Stupid homework playlist?" It had all of your motivational songs on it.
"Yes please." You opened the largest file on the tablet, a history assignment by Steve and Bucky. "And also ask Loki to come here please, I should be watching him." You had just started the first of the provided articles when your thoughts were interrupted by an increasingly loud noise you couldn't quite place at first. Boots. The noise was leather boots on the floor.
"The building said you required my presence?" Loki's voice rang from behind you, turning your cheeks a light shade of pink. His accent was so elegant, you couldn't get it out of your head. You nodded, not looking up from your article.
"I'm supposed to watch you whole the team is out, and I can't exactly do that while you're across the building." You didn't turn, but you knew Loki had moved over to the couch by the sound of his boots. Was he ever going to change his outfit? Even Thor wore casual clothing almost all the time.
"I suppose I can read here, then." You heard the couch cushions shift as Loki sat down and the occasional turning of a page as you quietly worked, one earbud in to listen to your music, the other out to listen to Loki. "Why don't you join me over here? I suspect that the couch is much better than the seat you currently occupy." You felt your cheeks get red again as Loki asked the question.
"I-I need to finish this first, sorry." Stuttering?! You never stuttered! What was happening? You heard the rustle of leather and assumed that Loki had turned back to his book.
"Do you really find my accent elegant?" Loki asked, breaking the silence. You stopped typing mid-sentence as you felt your face get hot for the fourth time in that day, the room now silent from the absence of your keys clacking.
"You're really pushing it, friend." You turned over to look at Loki for the first time that day, the hint of mischief in his glittering green eyes perfectly matching his smile as he chuckled.
"Alright then." He turned back to his book and you found yourself staring at his raven black and silky hair. "I always found friend to be a funny word."
"I guess." You muttered as you turned back to your essay.
