OH MY GOD, are you PREGNANT?

All the things i'm thankful for

We never celebrated anything when I was growing up, my mother would be working so if I did celebrate it was with the babysitter or at home, alone. So we never had any traditions, so i've never been a big fan of holidays, there's nothing special, it's just another day, well.. that was until I met Derek.

I open my eyes to see Derek looking at with his arm against his head, "morning" he said as he kissed my head, he then got out of bed and went to take a shower while I got an extra 5 minutes of sleep, which made no difference, I went into the washroom as Derek got out, I was getting ready and then he asked me, "who do you want to invite tonight?" I turned to him with my back against the sink, "Cristina, I guess Dr.Burke, Alex, Bailey, just a few people" I said with a shrug, "what about your dad and Susan?" Derek asked, he could tell that I needed a little bit of persuasion, "Meredith, they're your family, and it's just dinner" he had turned me, "okay, fine", 'it's only dinner' Derek words echoed in my head. 

~1 hour later at work~

I walked into the locker room to change, "so i'm guessing your on McDreamy's case?" Cristina asked me once everyone had left and it was just us, "yah, why?" she started to walk out as I put my lab coat on, "when are you gonna tell them?" Cristina said quietly once we had left the room, "tell them what?" I replied quickly "do you think that i'm dumb, about the minor fact that your pregnant" she said sarcastically back but still quietly "I, don't know" I said, throwing my hands up in the air, "well your gonna start to show soon", I agreed with her I had to tell them soon.

"So how much longer do you think that i'll be in here for?" Emma asked me, as I did her morning work up, but once she asked her question I stopped and sat down, "well, today Dr. Shepherd is gonna come in here and check the wound and if it's not infected, then you'll be out of here in a couple of days" I smiled, getting up to go and find Derek, "Is Dr. Shepherd in surgery right now?" I asked the nurse, "no he's not, would you like me to page him for you?", I turned around to look at Emma and then back "yes please" and they did. 

"Okay what did you need me for?" Derek asked the nurses, but one of them pointed to me, he rolled his eyes and walked over to me smiling, "Dr. Grey, you paged me?" he thought that he was smooth, "yes I would like for you to check Emma's wound, and if it's good then she'll be able to leave soon", he nodded and then responded "okay", he walked into Emma's room, took a look at her chart and then smiled, like he had discovered something, "hi Emma, I'm Dr. Shepherd i'm gonna take a look at your wound, okay?" she nodded and Derek went to look, he took off the bandage and looked, then put it back on. "Everything looks good" he took off his gloves and then we both walked outside, he pulled me to the side, we stood there for awhile until I asked a question "why did you smile while you were looking at the chart?" he let out a smirk "because I remembered you saying that you liked this one, I found out why.." he paused and I bit my lip ".. she's pregnant.." he paused again and I spoke up "so..", "so.... you feel connected to her, and she's a surgeon, you two are alike at this point in time" he put his hands on my shoulders, "and you guys are close in due dates, she's 12 and your 14" I nodded and then he left. 

I walked back into the room and sat down again, then Emma spoke up "I knew it!" she smiled, but I was confused "excuse me?" she angled her head, almost the same way as Derek does, "is Dr. Shepherd the father?" she asked me quietly, I took a deep in and then out "I knew it!" she said again, "are you two, dating?" she let a little giggle go, I was glad that she could laugh about this, "yah, why is that a big deal?" she continued, "because we have a policy at Mercy West, NO COWORKERS" she said shaking her head side to side, ".. and now you're having a baby with a coworker" she threw her hands up, and I walked out of the room, smiling.

~Later that night at home~

"Is there anything that we can do to help?" Derek asked, following Izzie around the kitchen as she went back and forth from the stove to the bowl of stuffing on the counter, "yah, you could start mashing the potatoes" she replied to him, "how long is this gonna take, Iz?" I said walking into the kitchen "well it's just the turkey that'll take awhile, so around another hour"she responded to me, "that's fine, the guests will be here in 45 minutes" I said and I sat down at the counter to look over everything that was happening, 'this kitchen has never been this used' I thought.

~30 mins later~

I heard a knock at the door and then rushed to get it, it was my father and Susan, I let them in and closed the door, "Derek come over here" I informed him and he joined me, I introduced him to the both of them, "Thatcher, Susan this is Derek Shepherd, my boyfriend, Derek this is my father and his wife" Derek shook hands with the both of them, and my father and Derek walked into the kitchen and before I could join them, Susan grabbed my arm "Meredith, I know that you think of me as the "evil step-mother" but we're all family, so I would like to get to know you" I smiled, that's not at all what I thought of her, "first of all, that's not how I think of you at all, you seem really nice, I don't dislike you it's just. You're a great mother, and I didn't grow up with a mother at all" I shrugged my shoulders, "here, let's sit down" she said and we both sat on the couch in the front room. 

Everyone had already arrived and we were starting sit down, I sat beside Derek and Susan, of course Izzie sat at one head of the table, and Bailey was down at the other. "does anyone want to say some kind of grace?" Izzie asked, no one said anything so she did "thank you, god for the food, family and friends, amen" and we at started to eat. As we ate I looked around and saw that me and Thatcher were the only two not drinking alcohol, Thatcher doesn't drink anymore, and obviously I couldn't drink, which I think people would notice and think was weird, because I always drank, so I whispered to Derek, "do you think anyone's noticing that I'm not drinking?" he looked at me, and then around, then whispering back "I don't think that anyone will notice" I nodded, believing him. Everyone at the hospital was talking about their surgeries during the day, so I made conversation with Susan, "so Susan how's Molly doing, with her daughter, Laura was it?" she smiled, happy to talk about something other then surgery, "they're both doing good, I think Laura looks a lot like her aunt" Susan said, applying it to me, I smirked.

After dinner, Izzie, Derek, Thatcher and Bailey did the dishes, while the rest of us sat in the living room, I had to talk to Cristina so I pulled her aside into the study, "I want to tell them" I said in a sort of panic, "what do you mean.. oh, the fact that you're pregnant with McBaby" she started smirking, I rolled my eyes "I thought that we were over this!"I was annoyed, "seriously, Cristina should I tell them?" I was asking her a serious question, "yah, whatever do what you want, you should talk to Derek though" I nodded and then walked back into the living room. Then into the kitchen and pulled Derek aside, "can I tell them?" as soon as I asked he knew exactly what I was talking about "the baby? sure if you're okay with it, but wait until i'm done here" I nodded and then I heard Bailey's pager go off "i'm sorry, Grey I have to go, thank you for the meal" I sighed and walked back into the living room to see Cristina, Burke, Bailey and Alex putting on their coats, "you are all on call?"I asked, "yah" Cristina replied and they all left, I threw my hands up.

Thatcher, Susan, and Izzie all sat on the couch with me and then Derek walked out and I joined him standing up "umm, me and Derek have an announcement actually" I looked at him and for the first time I let my hand float at the bottom of my stomach "we are gonna have a baby" I said, smiling the whole time, Izzie came up to me and hugged me whispering, "I knew it" I gave a look at her and she shrugged, and then went back into the kitchen. Thatcher then came up to me and Derek, "congratulations, to the both of you" he actually meant it, I could tell, lastly Susan came up to me and hugged me "congratulations Meredith" she said and looked down at my stomach, saying "actually are showing, i'm surprised I didn't notice before" I smirked walking towards the door, "your not the only one" I smiled. "Thank you Meredith for inviting us, we both had an amazing time"Susan said, and Thatcher nodded, agreeing with her, Susan hugged me again and Thatcher spoke to Derek before leaving "take care of her" Derek nodded and we waved as the left. 

"Well that was fun!" Derek said, as we sat down on the couch together.

AN:This part was a little longer then usual, just because it was a holiday part, the Christmas one's will be longer because I have a lot of things that I would like to happen/occur while Derek and Meredith visit all the sisters, so it will be over a course of 3 days, i'm not sure how many parts will come out of all that but we'll see, anyway I hope that you liked this part
