OH MY GOD, are you PREGNANT?

It's the little moments

When we look back, to think about the past, to think about what got us here, you may not know it but sometimes it's because of the little moments, you may have forgot that they have lead you here. It's those short moments, and decisions that have changed your life forever. We usually forget about them because of how small/short they are, and how they made an impact, we made those choices without thinking because it was instinct, we didn't need to double check that the back door was locked because we knew there was no reason that it wouldn't be. But, sometimes we end up thinking back and wondering, what would have happened if I didn't do something, or if I didn't choose that guy. 

~No ones POV~

It had been almost a week since the chief had announced that Seattle Grace was going to be merging with Mercy West, and the new interns had just arrived today for their first day. There were almost 30 new interns, so bailey had gained 4 new ones, meaning that Meredith didn't just have to compete against all the other interns but the new ones too, in order to keep her job.

~Meredith's POV~ 

"Like I told you, your the best intern, your gonna be fine Meredith you are not going to lose your job" Derek told her while they walked in the hospital, emphasizing the "are not", these were things that deep down she knew, but couldn't stop worrying. "Derek you don't know that, you don't. I am due in 3 months, and what if while I'm at home on bed rest, someone else becomes the best intern? Or when I get back from maternity leave, my job isn't there for me anymore?" I explained to him, while we stood in the elevator going up to the surgery floor. "Mer, your stressing too much about this!" he said with that kind look in his beautiful eyes 'I hope our daughter has his eyes' I thought, "maybe" I said sighing.

~Soon after in the locker room~

"You know, they're probably not even that good if their hospital shut down due to insufficient funds" Izzie said, trying to comfort us "that means that they don't have enough money, not that their doctors suck!" I confronted her with my eyebrows raised. George could tell that I wasn't okay and he came over to talk to me, "mer what's wrong?" I looked up as my eyes linked with his, I shook my head "I'm fine" I lied, "no your not"  he replied, sternly. After awhile of lying I told him, once almost everyone was gone, "I know, that I shouldn't be worried. Derek has said it multiple times.... but I can't help but think the worst" George scoffed and I stood up, "he's right you shouldn't... your fine" he said, but I could sense that something was wrong, and before I could ask about it we both got paged.

~1 hour later in the cafeteria~ 

"Today is sooo boring, there's no good cases" Cristina complained as she bit into a ham sandwich, "all the attendings are telling us to tell the "new interns" have a chance" I retorted, quoting new interns with my fingers. They sat at their own table on the other side of the room, "I thought that we were getting four new interns?" Alex said as he was facing their direction, I turned around to see what he was talking about, "yeah, there's supposed to be.... " Izzie stated turning around to look as well, "... but there's only 3" I said, confused. "Maybe they were already fired" Alex wondered as I kept thinking "well. Less competition for me, even though I'm already the best" Cristina bragged, but Izzie scolded her "Cristina!""what? It's the truth" she quickly replied, Izzie rolled her eyes and went back to eating. 

Later on, I got up to throw some things out, but when I passed the table I heard their conversation; "I heard the father is Dr. Shepherd" on of them said, and I knew that they were talking about me, 'wow they're really bad at whispering' I thought but then another spook up, "Dr. Shepherd, the attending?""duh... I also heard that she was sleeping with him for the surgeries but then..."".. poor girl, now she can't just use him for sex, I mean he's probably good in bed" I heard another one say. "Poor girl? Poor baby, she's an intern, that baby is gonna be in the daycare 24/7, she has 2 surgeon parents who accidentally got pregnant and then just didn't want to an abortion" 'I really want to punch her' I thought, but I still wanted to listen "yeah, like both them and the baby would have been better of-" 'okayyy, I've had enough' I turned around and stood behind the one girl who had said the most, I think her name was doctor adam- something. I cleared my throat and she turned around, so did the rest of the table, Cristina looked over at me and I shook my head. "So. You guys think that it's fun to talk about personal life and relationships as gossip?" I questioned confidently, they stayed silent "I think that if your gonna talk about something to your friends, you should know every detail because this has past personal, I mean your over here talking about my unborn baby" I shrugged my shoulders and continued "first of all, Dr. Shepherd is the father, he is also my boyfriend. Second, I don't need to sleep with him for surgeries, or any attending for that matter. Third, if you didn't know there's something called maternity leave, so I'll be doing that. I'm also so good that I can be a kick-ass surgeon and a kick-ass mother at the same time. Fourth.." Cristina had now joined my side. "...ya'll really have nothing better to talk about then the choices that Meredith makes about her uterus?" Cristina said finishing my sentence, we looked at each other and started to walk off but then I went to the first girl who talked "oh, and by the way, the sex is out of this world" I put my hands a foot apart as I walked away. We now had drawn attention to ourselves "that was fun" I said, "damn straight it was" Cristina replied, we smiled at each other as we sat down. "What was that about?" George asked me, but I was distracted by someone who had seen the conflict, Derek across the room standing against the door, he smiled at me shaking his head in disbelief.

~At Meredith's house later that night~

Derek and I sat on the couch, as he massaged my feet he looked over at me, doing the same thing that he had done earlier that day "what?" I asked playfully, he continued shaking his head "that was really sexy" he said and I rolled my eyes. He put my feet down and pulled my lips against his, my arms feel around his neck and we broke off, staying in the same position looking into each others eyes. We sat next to each other, I got up to get a notebook and then sat back down. "We should continue with the names" I suggested, he put the magazine that he was reading "okay" he put on on the arm of the couch and the other around my back, I put my hand on top of it and rubbed it.

"Do you have any significant middle names?" I asked him to start off, "middle names, what are we going backwards now?" he asked me back confused, I sighed at his comment "I figured that it would be easier to start with the middle name because it's easier to choose then the first name" I explained to him "ohhhh, that's smart" he complimented me, thinking that it would make up for his previous comment "well, I did complete medical school" I retorted sarcastically. "We could use your mother's name" Derek said, I cringed "why? She wasn't a mother to me, why would I allow her to be involved in my daughters life?""I'm sorry, your right" he said in defeat, "what about Carolyn?" I asked and he turned to look at me happily "you don't have to if you don't want" Derek told me, I scoffed "your mother, is wonderful, and at Christmas she told me that I was going to be an amazing mother, when I really needed to hear that" I explained, smiling the whole time "... she's got to be amazing, she raised the best man that I've ever had the honor to have in my life" he smiled cutely, I kissed him and then we broke off, I studied his features "her middle name is Carolyn" I said, "okay" he agreed.

While I loved Derek with my entire heart, I couldn't help but once in awhile wonder what my life would look like if I had choose Finn, to raise Derek's baby with the vet. I didn't love Finn as much as I did Derek. This was the happiest I had been in my life, with the most amazing man and a daughter on the way. 'I'm so glad I choose Derek'.

AN: Hi guys, I hope ya'll enjoyed the part as much as I did, I really liked this part, I have no idea why though. I hope that everyone is still enjoying the story (I'm honestly going blank right now, I'm sorry it's 1:30 am when I'm writing it). Anyways, we have the baby's middle name decided, I thought that it would be really cute to write Carolyn's reaction when they introduced the baby to her, and I love that name (I might have done Ellis but since Mer's daughter has that name I thought I would use something different).

I know that I say this every single time but I am so sorry for the lack of updates, my school will not be going back so I have to do the whole rest of the semester online, I will be a lot more active next month, I may even make up a schedule so that you guys know when to expect an update. I also know that the Mercy West merger was not until season 5 or something but I just wanted that storyline in here so I used it. So, I love you all so much and thank you for the support, byeeeee!
