Chapter 14
Audrey took a quick shower and dressed in a long sleeved white shirt and beige tulle skirt that falls below her knee. She paired it with simple pump heels and medium sized cream handbag. Her hair was tied in a high ponytail with a simple make-up. Left the room and drove off to the office.
"We have an event that require catering a week from now. It's an event for 2000 guests and located at the Loyd Hotel. And-" Carrie held the file towards her as they walked into her office room.
"Loyd? Next week! Are we even available on that day?" She unanticipated while looking at the documents.
"Yes, we are but we will need to confirm on the food choices soon so we can prepare the purchase. And Jane from Russell corporation also called informing that they require another catering next month for 1500 guests. She said that you will meet to review on the event at her office today at 10?" She continued.
"Ugh. He's overbearing. Yes, today at 10. Please prepare the proposals and place them on my desk. Anything else?" She dragged knowing that it will be a very long day, today. She evaluated the performances of her staffs with Carrie and reviewed on the things that can be improved. Wrapping up the meeting, Audrey made her way to the Russell building. She met briefly with Jane, finalised on the food and beverages before she was led into Cale's office. He stood from his chair and greeted her.
"Let's get coffee downstairs, shall we?" He escorted her to the coffee shop near his building to make the conversations more intimate.
"I believe Jane has adviced you on what you needed to know regarding the upcoming event." He sipped on his double shot of Café Americano.
"Yes, she did." She answered holding her cup of café latte.
"I apologized for being too busy and didn't get the chance to call you before. How are you doing?" He asked and they continued talking unrelated topics to the upcoming event's catering. They sat and talked for more than an hour before they stood up and decided to resume back to work.
"Have dinner with me tomorrow, Audrey." He stated as they both walked out of the coffee shop.
"I'm sorry... I can't. Work." She reasoned.
"Some other time then. Have good day, dear." He bid her goodbye and went back inside the building while she went to her van and drove back to a restaurant nearby her office to meet with her brother.
"15 minutes late, Monkchip!" He stood up from his chair annoyed.
"Miss you too, Hobbit. It's been so long since we last met." She hugged her younger brother who was standing 6'1'' tall. She was still not standing eye to eye, even on her 3 inch heels.
"That's why I asked you out for lunch. I do miss my favourite chef. How's business?" He asked after ordering their lunch.
"It's going great. I've been having more and more catering requests for bigger events now. How's your work going? Have they start building the Manukin site already?" She asked. Her brother was an architect and has been working on the design and monitor the construction of the new building.
"Yeah some problems here and there but it's going according to schedule." He answered as the food came. They continued talking about work and recent things happening in their life.
"Have you seen Mamie recently? How's she doing now?" He asked.
"Yeah I went to mom's house just last week. I don't know. The doctor said the cancer has not grown but she seem to be less interested in the treatment. She lost another 4 pound the last time we met. I'm scared, Andre. She's been there for me my whole life. I'm scared to lose her." She said in distressed.
"What matter most is how we treat her while she lives. We can only do our best as her grandkids and try to make her happy. There's nothing else we can do." He said trying to comfort his sister. They continued talking about life and her encounter with Cale and Russell.
"Are you planning on going out with your ex-boss again? Be careful with guys like him, Dree. He's known for his playboy reputation, he goes out with different girls all the time. I don't want you to get played by him. I swear, Dree if he ever hurt you, I'll kill him. I don't care who he is." He adamantly stated.
"Calm down. We're just... I don't know what we are, but there's nothing going on between us. He's just my ex-boss. And you should listen to yourself talking about girls as if you're not doing the exact same thing as him. Find a good girl and settle down already. I'm tired listening to mom complaining about you and your random girls. Please it's killing me softly with her words... killing me softly.... With...." She lilted along the tunes knowing that it will annoy her brother listening to her out of tune sound. They carried on their conversation and eventually went back to their offices.
