Chapter 3

Owlkit

Owlkit stared after Reedkit. Then drew his paw over his ear. He better get cleaned up for his ceremony. He began grooming himself.

While he was cleaning, a call rang from the highrock. "Let all cats all enough to catch their own prey join beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting!"

Owlkit gave one last lick and ran out of the medicine den. He saw Leopardkit and Violetkit run out the nursery. Reedkit approaching more slowly. His fur looked like he gave a quick wash and left. Blood was trickling down his eye.

Dawnwhisker leaped down from her place on the highrock and ran over to Reedkit. She whispered something to him then quickly licked his shoulder where his fur was matted.

Reedkit made his way to Medicine den while Owlkit sat below the Highrock. Dawnwhisker gave a mighty leap up to the Highrock and sat beside Birchstar.

"We have new kits whho are to be made apprentices." Birchstar announced. "Leopardkit" he nodded toward the proud looking she-cat. Leopardkit walked through the crowd and held her head high.

"Your Apprentice name will be leopardpaw. Until you get your warrior name." Birchstar turned his head to willowwhisker. "Willowwhisker" he nodded. "You have proven to be a loyal warrior. I hope you pass on your skills and qualities to Leopardpaw."

The Gathering cats yelled out her name
"Leopardpaw!" The chorus rang out across the clearing. Leopardpaw was a popular kit. She was always bright and reassuring.

"Leopardpaw!" He called out. She looked full of pride like she was already becoming a warrior. I'll look like that soon! He thought eagerly.

Reedkit had appeared out the medicine den, a wad of cobwebs stuck to his eye. He was still grooming himself, and Birchstar went on to Violetkit.

"Violetkit, your new name is Violetpaw. You will carry this name until you get your warrior name." Birchstar said. He nodded to Leopardtail. "Leopardtail. You will mentor Violetpaw. You have shone courage and great strengths. Pass on these skills."

"Violetpaw! Violetpaw!" Owlkit heard Leopardpaws call ring out the loudest. "Violetpaw!" He yowled. Her head snapped in his direction. Delight flooded her gaze.

Birchstar looked at Owlkit. Owlkit tensed his muscles. He couldn't wait! Birchstar opened his mouth and began to talk "Reedkit, your new name is Reedpaw." Owlkit stiffened. Well, ok Reedkit can be first, then. "Cedarbranch, you will mentor Reedpaw. Pass on your skills, and knowledge."

Owlkit leaned forward it's happening! Birchstar will make me an Apprentice! Birchstar flicked his tail "the meeting is over." Confusion instantly spreaded all over.

Owlkit slumped back into the nursery. Snowcloud was in the entrance, she was unhappy. Snowcloud is upset too. "Owlkit why did you hurt Flowerkit?" She asked him sternly. "What? I-i didn't! I was in the medicine den!"
