Chapter 16

Reedpaw

Reedpaw crouched on the tree branch. Everyone had gone hunting for rogues, so he started a hunt of his own. He beginning to lose hope. He had been there since Sunhigh! He loosened his grip and made his way towards the trunk. That was when he heard the voice.

"Stupid fleas! Are you sure this is the best place to find prey?" Asked a She-cat. "What if we run into one of those wild cats?" Asked a fretful kit.
"I'm a rogue. Wild cats are no match for me" boasted a Tom. "Sure, sure we get it Horse" Mewed the She-cat sarcastically.

"We know that you're doing this to get away from your group" taunted a tortoiseshell. "Shut up Wail!" Snarled Horse. "Be easy on him" pleaded the She-cat. "Mangy Prey stealers!" Yowled Owlpaw, hurtling down the tree.

The cats gaped. "Is that a wild cat?" Squeaked the kit. "Stay behind me, Fluff" snapped the She-cat. "Okay Vanish" replied the fretful kit. "Wait, look guys! He's a tiny wild cat!" Taunted the Wail.Reedpaw stiffened at his taunt.

He growled, tensing his muscles. His temper got the best of him and he leaped onto Wail. Wail's name spoke for himself, as he let out a terrified shriek. These are Rogues they have no code thought Reedpaw. He would feel no guilt in killing a rogue.

"Vanish, is Wail okay?" Asked Fluff As Reedpaw clawed his throat out. "Everything's fine Fluff" replied Vanish, a hint of fear in her voice. "You stupid flea-pelt!" Yowled Horse, throwing himself onto Reedpaw.

Reedpaw blocked him, nipping his hind leg before leaping onto his opponents back. "Prey-stealers!" He retorted. "I will send you running back to your clan with you're tail between your legs!" Screeched the rogue.Reedpaw clung on tighter.

"Filthy Rogue!" He yowled, giving the killing blow. Horse collapsed. Vanish was staring in horror. "Stay out of our forest if you want to see the end of it" he threatened her. "No! Please don't hurt Vanish, take me instead" Protested Fluff. Reedpaw narrowed his eyes.

"Nobody else will have to die if you leave" he repeated. The She-cat looked at him apologetically. She still looked sort of young. "I understand" she turned and exited the clearing. Wait- Rogues fought. Vanish hadnt fought him when she saw him.

"Wait!" He called. Vanish pricked her ears. "What?" She asked him. "Are you a kittypet?" He asked her. She widened her eyes in disbelief "This Fluffy kitten is a kittypet, I am a traveling cat." She said in rage. Reedpaw felt a prickle of embarrassment. "So you're a loner?" He asked. "Sure whatever" she replied, turning her back.

Something was familiar about this Loner. He had to find out what.
