1. Birthday Present

I could not believe it was already December! My winter break was coming up and I would be 18 soon, I could not believe how fast time went by! I still had no idea what I would ask my parents for my birthday! Of course I knew what I wanted, but I was pretty sure Harry Styles wasn’t something they sold at every convenience store, unfortunately…

I know what you’re thinking, but no, I was not ‘too old for that stuff’. Believe me, you’re not the only one who’d think that. Yes, I knew that he was famous, that he could get just about every girl he wanted on the planet, and that he’d probably never choose me over them. Damn it, if I couldn’t get the ordinary guys from my school’s attention, I would never hope to get his! But to be honest, I really didn’t care. All I wanted was to see him and maybe even talk to him at least for a couple of seconds. It’s so weird how sometimes it seems like you know someone so well because of the things people write on the internet. It seems like you’ve been friends for a very long time. There was only one problem in our ‘relationship’, he didn’t know I existed. In fact, I wasn’t really sure he existed either. He might as well just be a made up character created by the media in order to get more money from innocent girls looking for a perfect guy and a perfect romantic relationship. And yes, I was included in that group.

Look at me, I got so involved in my description of Harry that I completely forgot to tell you about me! A 17-year-old that could never stop dreaming, that was me. To be honest, there was nothing that exciting about my life, it was just like every other teenager’s. I went to school every morning and hung out with my friends in the afternoon. We lived in a very small town in England called Battle. You may think it was a boring place to live, with its population of around six thousand people, but I actually really enjoyed it. It was calm and peaceful and it had everything I wanted.

Realizing I was probably not going anywhere with the present decision making, I reach out my phone to call my best friend Lucy to ask for some suggestions. She was always the person I turned to when I needed anything, and she was always there to help me. It’s needless to say she was obsessed with One Direction just like me. We’d imagined a million times living in London together and bumping into one of the boys, who, of course, would instantly fall in love with one of us and invite us to meet the rest of the band. Deep in my head, I knew those things only happened on TV shows and movies, but it was fun dreaming about it anyway.

We’d been talking for a while when I saw something on the television that caught my attention, One Direction were confirmed to be performing in a month in the iTunes Festival in London! I didn’t even stop to think for a second. As soon as the guy pronounced the words ‘One Direction’ I forgot about Lucy and the phone and ran upstairs to talk to my mom, I was sure she would understand, and that would be the best birthday present ever!

Convincing my mom wasn’t nearly as hard as I imagined. Of course, I would be on a break, so it wouldn’t really affect my grades to go to London for a day. Plus, the city I lived in was only about two hours away, so we shouldn’t have much problem with the trip, we could get the train and come back on the same day. Of course, I was taking Lucy with me! She was my favorite person in the world and I couldn’t even imagine doing anything like this without her. I still couldn’t believe it, it was going to be the best trip I could ever imagine!
