Walking through the maze of flats and skyscrapers that made a large portion of the city of New York, Y/N led her newest acquaintances to her apartment. She had done her best to find something to cover up Toothless now that he clearly could not fly and take the least used routes, but even so, she often had to make up the excuse of the dragon being just a very well-done cosplay costume for her kids.

That in itself sounded absurd even to Y/N who felt much too young to settle down with kids. She didn't hate them, she just didn't think she was cut out for this whole engagement-marriage-babies-arguments-divorce thing that so many people went through these days. Her parents themselves had not lasted. Why should she believe anything would last? So, being the sceptic that she was, this whole lie felt incredible awkward and she knew that it would stay a lie for quite some time.

Hiccup didn't seem terribly bothered - a little confused, clearly slightly unnerved as he kept looking around himself and sometimes seemed to flinch as a car passed by, or a motorbike roared as it drove past them - but despite the slight redness of his cheeks, he didn't seem to feel quite as out of place as she would have had she been wearing the same outfit. He did seem to be curious though, looking rather adorably confuse - wait, what adorably?! The woman shook her head, denying that thought and banishing it right out of her mind. He was a total stranger, plus, he wasn't her type at all.

She preferred muscular guys. He wasn't twig-skinny per-say, and definitely not overweight, but... not muscular either. His hair was a regular-ish brown-red colour and he had dorky freckles colouring his face, which looked nice, but they had never struck her as particularly attractive before. She supposed his eyes were unique - with only a small portion of humans having naturally green eyes - but he was nothing special if you ignore the odd braids in his hair and the attire that he was wearing. Oh, yes, and of course the massive lizard that was black as night, could very likely fly when its wings were in good shape and she wouldn't be surprised if it could also spit fire. He could spit fire, as she had learned. Apparently he was called Toothless, but she couldn't help but find that ironic judging by his maw filled with teeth.

Eventually they managed to get to a grey apartment building not so far from the park, situated just a few blocks from the place she worked at. It had been the ideal place to live back then, but now...? In this situation? Probably not. Thankfully, even the old lady who would typically be wandering around the parking lots by the apartments was missing today, hopefully busy with something.

She sighed in relief and then opened the door, stepping inside the relatively dimly lit building. Toothless let out an odd sound, his eyes scanning the area with just as much curiosity as Hiccup now. Whilst this was amusing to watch - what with her having grown up in a city her whole life, so this was definitely nothing new - Y/N new that the three of them could not stick around the ground floor for too long. Now, the narrow staircase with its many stairs was probably not the best idea, but she doubted that Toothless would fit comfortably, along with the two humans into an elevator and so she hoped that the dragon would be able to climb up and down these stairs just fine.

"I didn't think houses could be built this high," Hiccup remarked, taking all of the building in as they ascended the stairs, breaking the silence that been hanging above them for some time now, "what sort of materials is this made out of?"

Definitely not being an expert on building, the woman only managed a shrug in response. "Not wood, or anything like that though," she assured him, only really remembering from her previous years in high school learning History and Geography that depending on the country, houses were sometimes made of only wood and other materials that could more easily decay and that were less stable in extreme weather. Those would probably not make the most suitable materials for high-rise buildings. Equally though it also depended on how a building was build, amongst other things. She didn't want to delve into that though, because construction hardly interested her and she didn't want to make a fool out of herself by giving the young man all the wrong information.

The Viking nodded quietly.

"So I'm guessing you aren't used to flats?" Y/N tried to keep the awkwardness as bay.

"Flats? Doesn't look flat to me," he commented and the woman stifled a chuckle. Toothless let out a low groan as they went higher up the stairs.

'Me too,' Y/N thought, figuring that the dragon was complaining about the stairs, 'I hate these damn things too.' She didn't want to be heard talking to a dragon - Hiccup talking to Toothless was weird enough for her and he was a Viking.

Then again, it wasn't normal to be caught with a Viking and a dragon in the first place, she reminded herself when they finally made the top floor. The conversation had died down again and did not start up until they had made it to the door to her apartment and she unlocked and opened the door, letting the dragon and the boy disappear inside first. She froze when another door a few metres down from hers opened and a child walked out of the apartment, eyes widening.

"Dragon!" the toddler exclaimed, seeming to be no more than five and very excitable. It was no wonder then that the mother simply ushered her son inside the moment she popped her head out, not noticing Toothless' tail disappear through the door.

Sighing in relief once more, Y/N entered her apartment, shutting the door behind her and slumping down by the door. "That was close."

As she said this, Toothless turned his head, the fins at the back of his head perking up and he turned to face her, tilting his head to the side. "We might have been so screwed if the mother had seen us," she explained, knowing that though most of the people in the streets dismissed them out of being busy, as a mother tasked with protecting her child, she would immediately suspect something, even if Y/N had suggested that Toothless was just a cosplay costume again.

For a moment, Y/N simply continued sitting by the door, relaxing and trying to breathe in and out, getting her head in gear. That was of course, before she heard something drop in the kitchen, and then the kettle turning on, then another thing dropping and then Hiccup's voice coming out of the kitchen. "Uh... do you have any idea how to stop this...?"

She had a feeling it would be a long few days...
