Song: I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt (Cover by Dave Thomas Junior)

=====

Sixth Grade

Doori followed her son's gaze when she saw him stop before entering the opened car door. Her eyes were led to a little boy walking, looking at his tiny feet, seemingly counting each step from the way he was mumbling to himself, while gripping both straps of his book bag closer to his body.

His peacefulness was inadequately disturbed by another boy with a smug grin on his too innocent face. Within moments, the first kid was met with a face full of dirt and a laugh from the boy standing with his foot out.

Doori ripped her eyes away from the sad scene when she heard the car door slam shut and her son snuggled up to her side, a pout evident between his chubby cheeks.

"How was school, little gummie?" She questioned, giving his soft locks a peck.

"Good." He answered and only then did his mother realize he was still staring at the boy trying to get back on his feet.

"Who's that?" She curiously asked, the car passing by the mystery boy who looked close to tearing up judging by his red nose and pouting lips. He looked up when he saw the car drive by, giving Doori a good look. Brown eyes?

"I don't know but people are being mean to him for no reason, mommy." Yoongi's bright blue eyes now filled with pity as he looked up to his mother, tiny hands fiddling with her fingers. "T-they keep calling him a-a brownie! What does that even mean! Brownies are my favorite dessert! Those kids make it sound like it's bad." He crossed his arms, burying himself further into her side.

"I'll tell you some other day, little gummie. But promise me one thing, never call that boy that word, got it? It's rude and hurtful." She sternly told him and he nodded despite still questioning in his little brain why a dessert can be something bad. Maybe they forgot to add chocolate chips in the brownie? Yeah, maybe that's the type of brownie those kids were talking about. He'd be offended if someone called him a chocolate-chip-less brownie too.

"I promise." A small smile appeared on his doll-like lips when he felt his mother's soft fingers play with his hair.

Last Day of Sixth Grade

"Mommy!" Doori heard her son call out excitedly from the car's rolled down window. The door opened, Yoongi greeting her with his trademark gummy smile before jumping on the seat, legs kicking behind him to help him climb the mountain of a car. Once he's finally situated in his seat, he bounced giddily, little fists hugged to his chest.

"What's got you so excited, little gummie." She giggled, fixing the boy's messy hair.

"Remember the- the boy I was telling you a-about?!" He beamed, stumbling over his own words from how fast he spoke.

"Yes, go on."

"Well this- this Sehun kid tripped him during lunch an- and so he- so he ran out but I saw he dropped his phone so I returned it to him." He proudly told her.

"That's amazing, Yoongi! That's so sweet of you. I knew I had such a kind little gummie." She praised him, looking at her son fondly.

"I still don't get it, mommy." His mood suddenly took a turn. "He was so nice when I gave the phone back. Why do people not like him? Is it because he has brown eyes? But they're pretty."
