Chapter 1
Beep...beep...beep
I groan as my alarm goes off. I decide to pull the covers over my head and I am close to falling asleep when my alarm goes off again.
My Mom calls me from the kitchen, "Mae, it's time for you to get up and around if you want to get there on time."
I groan to myself, seeing as I am not a morning person. I yell from my bed, "I'm getting up."
I get out of bed, grabbing my things and I get into the shower. As I'm washing my hair, my dog, Molly, jumps in with me causing me to almost slip on top of her, all the while, soap is getting into my eyes.
After I wash the soap from my eyes, I turn off the water, and I turn to Molly. "Molly what do you think you are doing?" She turns her head looking at me like I am crazy.
I roll my eyes at Molly, whispering under my breath how silly she is. I was going to miss her a lot, but I'm ready for a change.
I was getting out and dressed for the first day of college at Arkansas State University. It's always been my dream of mine to go there. I'm so ready to leave this town behind, all it is to me is just a bad memory. I need is a fresh start in a new town.
I head to my closet to choose my outfit. I found my oversized shirt and paired it with blue ripped jeans. I'm standing in view of my full length mirror to put on my make up and fix my hair.
While I'm getting ready there's a loud "BANG" on my door being pushed open by no other then my brother, Jordan. I glare at him through the mirror, "Shit! Jordan why not just knock on the door without being an ass as usual?"
Jordan rolls his eyes and turns to leave my room, but not before turning to me and smirking.
"You need to hurry your ass up, or your gonna be late for your first day. We all know you are slow as hell getting ready, so can you hurry up and so we can get a move on the road?"
I yell at him while he's walking away. "At least I ain't as slow as you when I'm in the bathroom, I wonder what you do in there."
I smirked to myself and I know for a fact he's flipping me off. I roll my eyes, because he's my brother, but I'm still going to miss him. I got done dressing when Jordan came back and helped me get my boxes down the stairs and into my Jeep. He wanted me on the road so I wouldn't be late.
I went back inside the house to tell my mom and Jordan goodbye. I wish I could say it was a heartfelt goodbye but it just felt like another day to me. I was just so happy to be getting it if this town.
I did have one stop to make before making it to my final destination.
I pull up to the small cemetery to say goodbye. I had to tell my Nana goodbye, before I leave for college. Sounds odd, but she meant the world to me.
I walked up her tombstone. Smiling at the beautiful detail of the stone. "Lana Mae Daniels 1928 - 2014. I love you, to the moon and back." I sit right in front of her stone and feel the wind pick up, gently sending my hair in a whirl wind, it makes me smile.
"So nana, todays the big day. I just wanted to let you know that I'm starting a new life away from here. You know what's going on with me I just want you to know, I won't be able to come and visit you like I usually do since I won't be here, but just know I'm gonna get through college, just for you." The wind picks up more after I say those words.
Once I placed a rose on her stone, I get up and start towards my Jeep the wind stops once i'm near my vehicle. I jump in.
"Here we go." I say and start it. I get on the road towards the interstate that leads me to Jonesboro, where life is just beginning for me.
I just hope to make some friends
