"Yeah, mum. Don't worry, I will. Be safe, I love you and tell dad to be careful on the roads, it's raining quite hard out here. Bye, I love you both. Bye."
The loud music inside thudded through the walls of the small nightclub where the young woman was standing outside. With her call coming to an end, she placed her phone in her pocket before gazing up at the sky, past the small roof covering. It acted as a shield, protecting her from the rain that poured down in rhythmic patterns, bringing a certain atmosphere to what most would call a dark and dreary night. To Elizabeth, though, it was just another small piece of heaven. The way the rain created a constant pitter-patter on its descent seemed to soothe her soul, to the point of her closing her eyes to breathe it in. After a couple of seconds, she reluctantly let it out, her breath fogging in contrast to the cold air, never ceasing to bring her joy.
The woman was spending the night out with friends to celebrate their break from responsibilities- or that's what she was supposed to be doing. She had unintentionally taken her time in returning to her table, instead, finding herself leaning back on the wall, a shiver running across her skin.
For a small moment, everything seemed to pause, then all at once, her world was spinning around, causing her to let out a high pitched squeal in surprise as her feet left the ground. The attack came as a shock to the woman, however, she couldn't prevent herself from bursting into a fit of laughter upon realising the culprit was her friend.
"Ellie!!" Her friend yelled in her ear, slowing to a stop with his arms loosely wrapped around her waist. The two had known each other for approximately three years after being introduced by their mutual friend Marlee, a head-strong woman who Elizabeth had met after graduation. This was two years before she met Warren and was around when she had just got accepted into university. Since they all met, the three of them have made other friends, however, they remained inseparable.
"Warren! You scared the hell out of me!" Elizabeth chuckled, pulling out of the young man's hold, slapping his arm playfully in the process. "You know Marlee wouldn't be happy if she saw this."
The woman placed her hands on her hips and rocked back on her heels in a teasing manner. Her two friends had been seeing each other for the past two-and-a-half years and their relationship, while strong, was not one that could be described in a couple of words.
"What Marlee doesn't know won't hurt her," he said with a joking wink and mischievous grin, completely forgetting the type of person he was dating.
"Yeah, what Marlee doesn't know won't hurt her ha ha ha." Came a sweet, yet sarcastic voice, ready to start a friendly fight whenever the chance was to present itself. Turning around, the two saw a small woman standing with her shoulder leaning against the door frame of the club, a smirk tilting her lips upwards. From everyone's point of view -even Warren's himself- he had clearly been caught red-handed.
"U-uhh, M-Marlee my love, my one, my only. What- what are you doing out here?" Warren stuttered with a sheepish half-smile, trying to change the subject. "You're s'posed to be inside with the others."
Immediately upon this encounter, Elizabeth swapped sides to stand with her female friend where they both took to staring him down in silence. Their facade was only temporary as they tried their best to appear serious and unforgiving about his sad attempt at escaping the inevitable. While they managed to uphold it for a few seconds, they quickly failed, in the end, all three of them fell into a new fit of uncontrollable laughter.
