I was wrong. Oh boy, was I wrong. I came to the hospital thinking the presentation would be quick and easy, but that couldn't be further from the truth. It took five hours and I can't even remember most of it because I blacked out somewhere in the middle. I'm finally on my way home again and I'm beyond exhausted. This is the worst birthday ever. I just want to go to sleep and not wake up for a week in hopes of it making me forget what happened at the hospital.

When I enter the apartment the only sound is coming from the TV. I was expecting the other guys to be waiting for me in the hallway, but now I'm glad they didn't. I'm not in the mood for a 'surprise' party right now. I walk into the living room to see what they're doing and they all have their backs towards me, busy looking at the movie playing on the screen. Did they not hear me?

"I'm back," I say, and quickly realize how raspy my voice is. It hurts to talk.

All six of them spin around at the speed of sound with shocked looks of their faces. They jump up from the couch and run around in the room picking up things and eventually surround me wearing ugly party hats. I flinch from the loud bang of party poppers and am immediately covered with confetti from all directions.

"Congratulations!" they all yell in unison.

"Happy birthday, Kookie!" Jimin says happily and puts a paper crown on my head.

"You're finally a real adult!" Hoseok exclaims and pats me on the back.

"Yeah... thanks," I mumble.

This is exactly what I didn't want them to do. They've put in a lot of effort to prepare this for me, but it just makes me feel bad since I'm not in the mood. I don't want them to think I'm ungrateful or anything, but I can't even fake a smile right now.

"Did everything go well at the hospital?" Namjoon asks. "You're awfully late so we ended up messing up the welcoming. Sorry 'bout that."

"Yes, five hours is awfully long," Seokjin chimes in. "Did you perhaps get lost on the way back?"

I shake my head with a sigh and dig around in my back pocket. I pull out a piece of paper and reach it out to them. Jimin takes the initiative and grabs the paper from my hand.

"Oooh~ the results!" he says while unfolding it and the others huddle up next to him. "Let's see here... Name: Jeon Jungkook, Date of birth: September 1, 1997, Sex: Male, Sub-gender: Alpha..."

They all freeze up from the mention of the word 'alpha'. Jimin's eyes run across the text several times again before looking up at me and the others do the same when they realize that's actually what the paper says.

"Kookie, you're an alpha!" Jimin exclaims.

I just hum in response, but they become even more excited than before.

"HAH! I told you he'd be an alpha!" Taehyung shouts.

"It'd been more fun if you were a beta, though. Like, imagine 7 out of 7 guys in the same group being betas. What are the odds? Actually the odds are pretty big, but still, congrats, bro," Namjoon says and pats me on the shoulder.

"Who'd imagined our little Kookie to be an alpha?" Jimin sighs and pinches my cheek. "I thought for sure you'd present as an omega, my little hunny bun!"

I shove his hand away and give him a light glare.

"Don't be silly, Jimin-hyung. Male omegas are so rare they're practically a work of fiction at this point."

"Yes, if you'd ask me I think this whole ordeal about sub-genders is a bit over the top because 90% of the population are just betas anyways, and the defining traits for alphas and omegas are becoming weaker so in a couple generations we'll all be betas," Yoongi says.
