Old Place 1933
New Richmond didn't go as well as I hoped. Grace put me in touch, with a man named Austen Ebaugh. Seems his Father owned Fiddlers Knob called it that, because his Dad and older brother played fiddles every evening the sound filled the air as he put it. His Fathers first name was Lenard.
He doesn't remember a Thomas Wright or a Beth Wright Mommas name. Does remember family worked for his Father, before he was born. His sister Emma may know who they were. Gave him my address, he said soon as he found out something he would let me know. Do remember Gramma Wright talking about her taking care of me, when I was real young. Pops and Momma went away for awhile.
That chest held few more things, made more questions than answers. Picture of Poppy least looks like my Grandfather, always referred to him as Poppy. Course Pops looks a lot like Poppy. Wearing a Confederate uniform. Found an old sword has CSA stamped on it, meaning Confederate States of America. Few old letters to Gramma Wright from Poppy. Nothing more than him saying he missed her, where he was how not to worry.
Old Union Flag, looks like an old Colt Navy pistol wrapped in an old oiled down rag put in a small box, no way to tell who owned it. Few pictures one looks like Uncle Thom other think it's his wife. Not certain. One looks like Gramma Wright yet just little different, could be she is younger.
Brass buttons off what possibly be from a uniform not certain on that. One Bayonet can't tell how old, no markings on it. Small blood-stained blue cloth with gold trim, least looks like blood. Has Philotis stitched inside what looks like a seem on the cloth.
Hard to tell on that.
Old pocket watch, something looks like maybe a medal not sure it's tarnished and pretty beat up.
Found an old shotgun intricate carving on the stock, lions head brass butt-plate the ramrod looks like just an old piece of wood. Who owned this I am not sure. Found that tucked back in that closet.
Only other thing in the chest, worth thinking on.
Name Betsy engraved on a small locket, has Mommas picture in it. Piece of leather has Pioneer on it, rest is burned over. Can't tell what it says.
Almost like someone doesn't want to remember.
What a puzzle I have found. Just keep reading investigate what I find out.
Well, so what do we have both flags a sword with CSA on it. Blue cloth with gold trim looks blood stained. What looks like maybe a medal. Bayonet no markings. Locket with Betsy engraved on it, picture of his Momma Beth. Something with Pioneer on it rest can't read. Fiddlers Knob was a Farm, learned nothing knew from it. The picture was it Poppy or Thomas? William couldn't tell who it was.
Fiddlers Knob, great name although not on any maps.
I know where it is. Sits a top a small hill just starting the climb out of the valley. Place called Clermontville
is the closest town. Near Mount Zion cemetery, see the place from it. Old house still stands not certain if its the one Lenard built or not. Believe unless it was sold recently two hundred acres still remain of the old farm. The Ebuagh Family, is from my dads mother side of the family. Fiddlers Knob is real.
Most people around the area never even heard of the name. Lost in time I guess, only family know it now just few of us know it. So you just found a puzzle guess like William you have to read on.
Like all Diaries, most weren't written to be read by others. What secrets did Thomas have? Will we even find out?
Thanks for reading vote comment, thanks for your support.
