Please remember this chapter is Thomas and Beth's children. You have problems with names, refer to the Wright family chapter. William Wright's diary.
Nothing more on the Ohio thing Grace hasn't gotten any new information on that. Thom said uncle Thom married a lady in what is now West Virginia. Her name was Mary Bedford, Uncle Thom fought for the Army of Northern Virginia. Confederate Army. Not certain if he survived the War or not. Still looking into that, can't find any children listed for him. He has included a few battles and Corp.
First Corp Army of Northern Virginia.
Commander of the Corp Major General,
George PicketBattle of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Suffolk campaign, and Gettysburg. Damn famous charge at Gettysburg. Pickets Charge it was called. Uncle Thom may not of survived that. Can only wait.
Poppy, 4th Mounted Infantry, not sure the how and where on this, even the when. Do know from Pops diary, Poppy had to go with the South because of the Constitution. Poppy done things he didn't agree with to get the Old Place back, then fight for what he thought right, up holding the Constitution. For slavery, sounds contradictory at least it does now.
Maybe then it wasn't, Pops married this Betsy, is this Betsy like I am thinking Momma, Beth. If it is, surprised they weren't killed, sent to prison. It's not even legal to marry a black person. Is my marriage even legal, could I go to prison, Grace is safe Ohio has no law against it, I and Thom could if it's true both be bound for prison. Like Theo says this must be kept quiet.
Mail came, letter from Beth. Seems Austen went through some of his fathers books for the farm. A Thom Wright was being paid 20 dollars a month plus housing for him and his wife. At Fiddlers Knob. 1867-1869 again in 1871 for three months.
So this Mystery is figured out, what were they doing those two years, in Ohio then back again. After I was born would of been close to a year old.
Could it of been the Klan or something? Is Betsy Beth? Yes she is I believe Momma is Betsy, this I feel is true. I'll keep this quiet till I have more information.
Side note, checking through law books even after the War between the States. Kentucky law forbid marriage of a person of twelve percent, niggero ancestry to marry a white person. That was 1866.
Betsy/Beth said keep the papers to be free, they needed no trouble. Long as she was considered a slave. They could live together. Without fear of harassment. Think Theo and I need to talk again. Trip to Maysville is needed.
My trip to Maysville, did get some answers. Momma/ Beth/Betsy - if what she told Pops was true she was from a white parent and mulatto, that make myself Thom and Grace, Octoroon 1/8 black.
Momma/Beth/Betsy would of been Quadroon 1/4 black. That would be hard to prove, that her mother was mulatto. That would still be more than 12 percent black if my math is correct. Pops probably could have told me, he was better at math.I am not a miscegenation expert, that side of the law Bowman and Wright didn't handle. Don't even know of anyone who would even know this law that well. Stuck again, Theo did say he would check through his fathers old paper work he has on Momma and Pops. Considering Pops used Theo senior to keep track of his transactions and legal documents. I don't know what Pops and Senior had going on, don't think Theo knows.
For now, stick with this war thing and Pops diary to figure this out. Myself and Thom still aren't out of the woods, our children should be fine, they maybe considered illegitimate, by law what a mess I have possibly found.
Check the Glossary for more information, on these terms I've added more.

Is Betsy/ Beth Momma like William thinks?
