Kaycee Rice was no ordinary dancer.
No, she was far from it. In fact, she was one of the best. The way that she moved and the emotion she broadcasted each choreography she danced was nearly unmatched, making her extremely popular among most dancers. To nearly everyone, she was the kindest soul you'd ever meet.
Unless your name was Sean Lew.
Don't get her started on Sean. Ever since he moved to LA and began taking the same classes as her, she could never go anywhere without hearing his name. It was funny at first, especially to her best friend Tahani, who would endlessly tease her about finally having some sort of competition. But after nearly 6 years of competing against each other, Kaycee had grown extremely annoyed- not only was she not getting any better than him, but he just couldn't get any worse.
Every solo she did was compared to his on some sort of youtube video, and her comments were spammed with things she should do better (or the occasional, "Sean is definitely a better dancer"). It frustrated her to no end. How could he just waltz in here and steal everything out from under her out of nowhere?
It wasn't fair.
But she played the game anyway. Every class she saw him in, she made sure to let him know that she would wipe the floor with him in her solo. Every outfit she wore around him she made sure was her best, giving him no opportunity to say anything.
And he played the game as well. Hard. He made eye contact with her while he danced complicated moves just to prove a point. He mocked her outfits anyway, just because he knew she thought she was beating him at something. He believed that, if she was going to act like she deserved everything, then he should be allowed to knock her down a peg as often as possible- for the sake of everyone.
And for that reason, Sean Lew was Kaycee Rice's enemy. And she would do anything to make sure she was beating him in every imaginary category possible.
That is why Kaycee exited her car in front of the building for her next dance class in a black mesh, slightly see-through shirt and leggings which were open in a criss cross pattern down the sides of her legs. She grabbed her water bottle and gym bag, which stored her change of clothes, before locking her car up and heading towards the building.
She could already see through the glass of the doors that a bunch of people were already checked in in the lobby area, so she quickened her step. Hopefully Tahani had already arrived and signed them both in, but she could never be too sure.
Lucky her, Tahani greeted her as soon as she walked in with a scoff, shaking her head. "Kaycee Rice, is that still going on?"
Kaycee knew exactly what she was talking about, but acted oblivious anyway. "Is what still going on? And hello to you too, T. Did you sign us in?"
"Don't act stupid. The Sean thing. Why else would you be dressed like you're ready for a magazine shoot?" She spoke a little too loudly, eyebrows raised at the other girl. "I didn't even know he'd be here. I'm starting to think you stalk him or something"
"I don't stalk him" Kaycee defends quickly, "I just saw Julian's snapchat story. Did you sign us in or not?"
Tahani nods, looking around at the rest of the dancers before turning back to Kaycee. She opens her mouth to say something, but is interrupted when a shout is heard directly behind her.
"Ah! It's my least favorite girl!"
Kaycee doesn't even need to turn around to know who the voice belongs to. She rolls her eyes, even though he can't see her, and pivots just enough so that he can hear her without actually making eye contact. "Didn't you use that line last time? You're losing your originality, Lew"
