"Winter I'm sorry," Lily shouted looking at the breaking ice behind her. She had to make it look real, but she wished that Winter didn't have to see this. "I'm so sorry."
"Lily I need to walk forward, or don't a move a muscle," Winter said, she didn't know how Lily made it where she was, not without falling over. She had to take slow steps, but she had to try.
"I'm sorry." Lily wanted to tell her so many things, but she wanted Winter to know that she loved her, ever since she looked at her small face.
"Lily, this isn't the time nor is it the place."
But they weren't be another time, Lily thought. Thinking back to her own dream, blood on cold ice, empty eyes. She wasn't going to allow that to happen. No, it wasn't going to happen, not while she was still breathing. "You know Elder River told me something once, something you would agree on."
"You can tell me afterwards."
"She told me that life was a gift and not a right."
"Really Lily I wasn't kidding," Winter told her. She didn't need this, she needed her sister to be safe. "Either come forward or don't move."
"Can you promise me something?" Lily asked. She knew that she was being selfish, but she didn't want her sister to die. However, she was willing to leave her along with Hunter and Dylan. She knew she had to trust River, she had to trust her and Luna to look after her sister.
"I don't need to promise anything," Winter told her. She didn't need to promise Lily anything, because she was going to be fine. "You're going to live and I'm going to scream at you."
"Please?"
"Your going to be fine. Everything is going to be fine."
"But you'll be hurt." Lily knew that everyone thought she was naive and happy, but they were the ones that were naive. She needed to stop her sister, even in the end, Winter hated her. "You know Spring was right."
"What? You know this isn't the time."
"You're like the snow, so pretty to look at," Lily said. She had always thought her sister was pretty, when she was smaller, she as cute as a button. "I wish... I wish for so many things, but now I know. None of them are going to happen."
"Of course they are. So many people will help you," Winter said looking at the ice around her. She had to make sure her side wasn't cracking, or else neither of them would be able to get back to the snow covered land. "Like how you help them, like how your training to help them. They'll help you, you're their snow angel."
"Why can't you accept it?"
"Because theirs nothing to accept."
Lily only sighed.Winter had been the one who accepted things with ease, even when she was young. However, now she was the one accepting the situation, one of them were going to die and she wasn't going to let Winter throw away her life. "It's almost like Rose and Alex, I miss them. I really do."
Hunter would kill me, Winter thought looking at her sister. If Lily was to die, then she'd die. Hunter would make sure of it, while Dylan would back him up.
"You really don't get it, do you?"
"There's nothing to get, Lily."
"Sometimes, I feel like I'm the oldest," Lily said, Winter wasn't the one who should be protecting her, she should be the one protecting Winter. She needed to protect her scared and innocent sister.
Winter looked at her feet. The ice was getting closer and closer, but she wondered why it was moving so slowly, like someone wanted to draw it out. She was just glad that the ice was thick, she had a chance of reaching Lily before it gave out. "Why?"
