Like most days, Goth spent his time reading in the small lawn of the tiny quaint house a few hours away from the center of town. He didn't really think much of this day, but fate played it role. See the Afterdeath family had always been a helping hand when it came to Dream and Goth's crush, Palette. So at first Goth didn't think much when Palette and Dream were walking to the door, he smiled and waved , but something was... Off. The pair weren't smiling brightly, in fact Dream looked worried and Palette, he didn't even seem to notice Goth. "Goth.. Are your parents home?" Dream asked but Goth shook his head, "Their both working... Is uh, is everything ok?" Goth stood up and walked over, though he stopped in his tracks, his friend, who hadn't said a single word, was wide eyed and shaking.
But there was intense anger in his eyes. An anger Goth wasn't familiar with, this was Palette, sure he'd been angry before, everyone has. But the Skeleton he saw before him, looked like he could kill a man. Dream seemed to have noticed Goth's worry "I need to talk with Geno, or perhaps Death. Do you know when they get back or if I could call one of them. It's quite important." Only now did Palette look at Goth, and it made Goth uncomfortable.
Something he himself would have never feel. Palette was the nicest guy he knew. "Well dad, he uh, he gets back around 1 and Father doesn't get home on a consistent time, uh schedule? As for calling, umm I don't know if it's a good idea to call my father but maybe dad can take your call? Do you want to come inside?" Goth offered as he reached up the tiny porch.
Dream nodded and lead Palette, who had his gaze back in the floor, inside. "I'm going to go back outside to call Geno, Palette I'll be right back" the younger nodded and stood there, posture tense and breathing almost riggid. Goth looked back at his friend when the elder in the room left "Umm Palette are you-" "What gives him the nerve to even consider making dad feel like that! He thinks its ssssooo easy to enter back in my life! Fuck him! I don't need him! Dad doesn't need him! How dare he think he can make everything up and make dad feel like he's the bad guy!" Goth jumped at Palette's outburst, and more surprised that said skeleton swore. But it didn't take Goth long to understand who he was talking about. "He doesn't even understand the hell we have been through! What dad had to go through! He broke my dads heart! His trust! And- And he just thinks he can leave us behind then come back in our lives! He doesn't even have the soul to care! Literally! And this entire time he- he" Palette's held in anger soon turned into frustrated cries.
Goth reached out to comfort the other, but his hand was brushed off. Goth stepped back and sighed " Palette, I might not understand-" "no. No. Just- just. Can we drop it? I really don't want to yell anymore Goth. I'm tired." For once, Star eyelights looked off the ground, giving the smaller a clear front row seat to how conflicted the other really was. "Yea. Yea we can do that. So you want tea? Something to eat?" Palette quickly nodded, "some tea would be nice" Goth nodded but before the other walked into the kitchen, a hand prevented him from leaving "Goth- I'm sorry for yelling, but I was just- just angry and dads whole energy wasn't happy either so it all just weighed on me." "It's good." "but- but you felt so scared. Worried more than the latter" "Palette it's ok. It just caught me off guard is all." with that settled the two walked into the kitchen.
It wasn't until an hour of their arrival did everything become clear, after Geno had gotten back him and Dream sat in the living room, Goth was sitting by the stairs just out of sight. Palette was upstairs playing some videogame that they picked out. Goth listens carefully " Well he has no right to do that. You have every right to be angry Dream." "I don't know Geno, he has a point. Who was I to keep Palette away from him? It's Ink's son too" "Oh please. Spare me the bullshit. You don't owe him shit. Ink made his choice when he left you two behind. You shouldn't be putting all this blame on yourself, it isn't healthy. If Ink really wanted to make things up he definitely wouldn't have tried to guilt trip you into feeling horrible for a justified decision." " you're right. But I feel so horrible, Palette should be a kid, he shouldn't have to worry about what hell hole I've dug us in" "Dream you need to stop blaming yourself for this. It's hard, sure, but you're going to fig yourself further-" The conversation stopped.
Goth heard someone sigh before " I taught you better than to eavesdrop Goth." he finches and stands up before waking into the adults clear view. "I'm sorry I just came down here for snacks and you guys were talking I didn't want to bother you so I kept waiti-" "you can't lie your way outta this Goth. You forget where you got your lying skills from?" the two locked eyes for a second. "Go upstairs. Ok? "Goth nodded and headed upstairs.
Upon entering his room, Goth blinked a bit in surprise to find Palette passed out, normally Goth fell asleep first, but seeing Palette's stature, he could tell that it was out of pure exhaustion. He had never seen Palette look so restless before. Goth sighed as he walked over an gently lifted his friend, and by gently what that really means is as gently as possible. He placed Palette on his bed, and sat on the floor.
He woke to the sound of his door opening, "oh sorry Goth, I didn't mean to wake you" Dream walked into the room as Goth sat up more "Its ok" Goth spoke quietly and watched as the older skeleton walked over to the bed and picked his son up. Goth could hear Dreams voice mummer things to his son, and he watched his friends features become more relaxed. "Thank you for taking care of him. I know he forgets to say it, but he appreciates everything you do for him." Dream smiled and looked back at Goth who's face lit up. "Oh- um is he going to be ok? He seemed really worked up" Dream's smile fell, "honestly Goth, I cannot tell you that he's going to be 100% ok. There are things that I wish I could tell you, but I know that it wouldn't be right of me to do so. As for now, we'll be ok. Cross came home so we're going to be just fine." Goth nodded and stood up. "Good night Mr. Dream." Dream smiled as he walked out of the room with his son sleeping in his arms, "Goodnight Goth".
The next morning, Goth woke up to a bunch of texts
Palette:
