Chapter 4

Mia looked at the man who shut the boss' door behind her with pleading eyes; as if he could be of any help to save her from her predicament.

Being in the boss' room only meant one thing. Being sexually assaulted. Mia looked everywhere but the boss, but even so, she could feel his evil grin and cold stare on her. She had a sudden urge to cover her whole body to keep him from raping her with his eyes.

Mia had made a promise to Conrad never to allow the boss to touch her. But it was quite an impossible thing to do. How on earth was she going to avoid that now? It was practically inevitable.

"I see you're ready from the way you look right now." His usual sarcasm. "Well sorry to disappoint you love but today is a different story. That's not why you're here. I just had to let you in on some juicy information." Was it a stone that dropped or it was Mia's heartbeat. Nevertheless, she couldn't help but wonder what would make the boss summon her to his room, if it wasn't sexually molesting her.

"I quite remember when you were caught. In the woods, after your swim in that river." he stated blankly: no facial expressions. Mia's mind drifted to memory lane as the boss spoke into detail about her last days on 'that part of the earth'- as he would put it.

One would wonder how a man at his age, could remember something that happened five years ago. First of all, he had quite a memory. Then he stated the fact that he was particularly interested in her, since he first saw her, that was seven years ago, at such a place.

He had been stalking her ever since, watching her closely and observing her daily routine. That was how he remembered almost everything about her.

Mia's calloused hands were now wet from sweat as she fought back the urge to cry. She had missed her family. Her home. Her annoying fiancé. Everything and everyone she loved was now left behind. She instantly remembered her mother, causing the tears which she tried so hard to contain, to fall. She bowed her head as she felt her legs begin to wobble.

The boss was observing her closely as he played with his pen. "Believe it or not I hate to see you cry." he said after a while.

Liar from the pit of hell!! Mia thought.

"I think I should just go straight to the point. We recently captured a friend of your mother's. Wait did I say friend? I'm sorry. Adopted daughter I meant." At this, Mia balled her fists and lifted her head abruptly. But the way he emphasized on the words "your mother's" did not go unnoticed by her.

"Surprised? Well, its rather unfortunate that your mother decided to replace you after the long wait." Ouch. That stung Mia in the heart so bad, she finally decided to speak. "Go to hell you devilish Imbecile!" she spat but was wary about what she was saying.

"I'm sorry okay. It's no fault of mine. Don't get mad at me." he spoke with mock pity.

"Anyway her name is Lily. You might want to create a good relationship with your adopted sister." his evil grin returned.

"Sam! Sam! Sam!"he bellowed. A tall handsome man somewhere in his twenties stepped in. He wore casual clothes unlike the other men. He looked every bit of the boss' right hand man. "How many times do you want me to call you? I won't take it lightly with you the next time around. Bring Lily in."

Sam went out and returned a minute later with Lily. She was tall and pretty. Her long black hair fell loosely at her sides. Her knee length black dress was tattered. An indication that she didn't have it as smooth as Mia did.

The girl looked so vulnerable as she lifted her blue eyes to look at Mia. For a moment, Mia thought she saw a hint of hatred in her eyes. She couldn't tell who it was meant for though.

"Well you've seen her. You two can get to know each other later. Now out of my room." he barked and sank deeper into his chair behind his desk as he dismissed us.

Mia went straight to the river to have her bath after leaving the boss' room, before searching for Kayla. It wasn't difficult finding her. She loved sitting at the shore where she could see nothing but water, reminding her that she had a family out there that she wished to see one day.

Mia narrated everything that had happened to Kayla. "You need to be careful Mia. He could be lying you know." Kayla said at the end of the narration.

"I know. I have to ask her." Just then Lily was dragged by her supervisor on the 'tour'. "Speaking of the devil" Kayla whispered. Mia figured it was the best time to approach her so she did.

"Can I talk to her for a minute?" Mia asked the man. Who only stared at her. "Please." He sighed. "Just a minute." He stated to which she nodded.

The first question Mia asked was, "Do you know my mother?" which of course was the most stupid question to ask a stranger. Realizing this, she corrected herself. "I'm sorry. I didn't do that well. I'm Mia Brown. My mother is Jenna Arthur. Do you know her?"

Lily's eyes widened. "You're Jenna's daughter, Mia?" Mia nodded. So she took the opportunity to ask her questions. She asked until it was obvious Lily was fed up with all the questions. But she needed to know how Lily was captured. "So what exactly happened when you were captured?"

"Well, that evening, Jenna and I were watching a movie when there was a pounding on the door. We really didn't know what to do when the banging became insistent. Jenna told me to go to my room but I refused, I don't even know why she asked me to do something like that when she can't even throw a stone." Mia snorted at how weak Lily saw her mother to be. "You think so?" she asked.

"One time when I was in high school, I went for a party and came back late. A friend dropped me off some blocks away and then I walked. Just a few houses away from mine, I was attacked buy some guy. I tried calling for help but he had cupped my mouth so tight. Looked he was following me from a distance. I really thought I was going to die and till now I don't know why he attacked me. But just when I thought all hope was lost, Super Jenna  came to the rescue..With a gun!! My dad's revolver." When she was done they all had their jaws hanging lose.

"Wow. Jenna.." Lily thought aloud.

"Anyway back to the original story." Mia snapped them out of their shock.

"Yes yes. So Jenna went towards the door, preparing to open it when a man called my name. When they realized we didn't have any intention of opening up, they broke the door. And since Jenna was standing right behind it, it sent her flying across the living room. After that, she was knocked out pretty bad. It only made their work even easier." she paused.

"The guy that shoved me inside the boss' room when I first saw you was there. He said something about not allowing me to escape this time around since Matt was so careless. Matt was my boyfriend but it turns out that he's one of them." Lily explained but shrugged and continued after Mia quirked her brow. "Wasn't my fault. He was sweet. Anyway, I put up quite a struggle but that was the last thing I remember before he took out a cloth and covered my nose. I fell unconscious after."

"That's one hell of a story. Nothing like mine apart from the struggling part. Trust me, you had it very easy. But my story is for later. Right now, we should get back to the shelter." Kayla spoke up for the first time and Mia agreed.

"We'll get out of this blasted place...one day." she said more to herself than the others.
