Mia slammed her door shut in frustration. Never in her life had she been so bored. One way or the other, something worth a while would come anytime she was bored but today seemed to be a different case. She lived in the city where she was with her fiancé and only came for visits when she was on leave. Nevertheless, Mia knew how to have real fun and there was no better place she could think of than her mother's house in the woods. Infact, it was also a time where she had her break from her fiancé.
To her, life with Paul was the worst thing that could ever happen to a human being. Most of the time, she found herself wondering how they ended up together. He was the most brainless and stupid man she had ever met, according to Mia's descriptions. She had spent more than half of her entire time with him, trying to talk him out of his sluggish and lackadaisical lifestyle but it just fell on deaf ears. In short, he was an adamant person. Plus the fact that he had been living like that for so many years so who was Mia to tell him what to do. But one thing she was sure of was that, there was no way in hell she was marrying him. and as to why she accepted his proposal, well there were so many reasons why.
Mia was standing infront of her room, leaning against the door when a light bulb lit in her head. The woods were a perfect place to ward off the boredom that had threatened to drown her.
She wore a stripped red and white long-sleeved blouse with black leggings, which she completed with black knee-length boots. She loved fashion but sometimes kept her outfit simple. Without telling her mother, she dashed out of the house towards the woods. Securing her journal in between her lips, she tied her brunette hair into a pony tail and made it for the forest.
Why on earth did her mother decide to live here-away from civilization, out of all the places in the world, she wondered.
Her boots made crunching sounds against the dried leaves on the forest floor as she shoved branches out of her way to make a clearer path. The only thing that surrounded her were trees and dried leaves that seemed to go on and on. Despite her environment being boring, she kept on moving deeper into the woods without knowing where exactly she was going.
She halted when her ears picked up the sound of rushing water. A river. Beaming with excitement, she quickened her pace, moving in the direction of the sound of the river.
She slowed down once she caught sight of the river. Stooping at the banks of it, she scooped some of the clear water but let it fall back into the waterbody through the spaces between her fingers. It felt extremely cold on them. Did her mother know of this place and didn't tell her? Of course!
The woman had been living there for nearly four years. She must have explored the area on her own.
Almost everyone knew that Mia and her mother were so much alike. They both had brunette hair and brown eyes. Both were very inquisitive and adventrous. Both liked talking so much they could literally get a deaf person to tell them to stop making noise.
If they were given the moon, they would dismantle it and find out everything that is in it. Mr. Brown, Mia's father used to joke that his daughter needed a once-in-an-hour check up on her mental stability.
As curious as she was, she decided to have a bath in the water to know what it felt like and if there were any harmful microscopic organisms that could cause harm to the skin. Working as a Biochemist in a lab did have its serious effects. Apart from being too curious, you become partially mad. Let's combine it with the fact that its Mia in question here.
She dropped her journal and began stripping, starting with her blouse and ending with her boots. Wasn't it supposed to be the other way round? Well, it was Mia. Leaving just her undies, she gently, tip toed into the water. She shuddered when she was fully immersed in it due to its very cold nature. In a few minutes time, she checked her skin to see if anything had happened to it. Seeing nothing, she relaxed and heaved a sigh of relief. But thinking about it, even if someting was supposed to happen should it start immediately?
More than fifteen minutes passed and Mia was still in the river which was flowing at a slow rate. When she became time conscious, she got out of the river in a haste to the extent that, she slipped on a rock and almost fell but somehow managed to gain her balance.
After donning her clothes on her still wet body, she sat beneath a tree and shut her eyes. She was enjoying every bit of it when suddenly a sharp pain in her right shoulder caused by whatever had been sank into her flesh, surged throughout her body.
Screaming and groaning in agony, she reached out to touch where the pain was felt the most. Withdrawing her hand, she saw blood smeared all over it, then she realised she had been stabbed.
She tried pulling out what was in her skin but was too weak to accomplish that. Mia grew weaker every second that passed by and she knew that she was certainly going to die. With a blurred vision, she mouthed the words 'Mother'.
A/N: I don't know if this prologue painted a good picture of the whole scene and at the same time got you wanting to know more.
But all the same thanks for taking your time to read this. I appreciate it. I hope you continue reading.
P.S.: You are totally free to say what you think about which ever thing you find wrong or think needs to be corrected. That would make this book better. (I'm not particularly good at descriptions so pardon me :D)
Pls dont forget to Vote too. Thanks;)
