Three days had gone by and Mia was still locked up. Her only visitors were the rats and mice that stopped by to say hello and to dine with her. Throughout the three days, she hadn't dared tasted the food. She attempted drinking the water but spat it out when she realised it wasn't water at all. Brine! That's what it was.

She had spent the two sleepless nights thinking about Conrade, her children and her friends. The thought that she was never going to see them again made her cry all day long. If only she knew why the boss had decided to keep her there, then she'd at least try to do anything just to see her friends again.

She couldn't tell the boss about her children. He'd use them as slave girls or worse, kill them. She hugged her legs to her body tightly, crying in her knees.

The banging on the door- not only hers but all over, told her she had to pass her bowl through the slot that a man had opened. The last time she had refused to pass her plate, she had received a severe beating from Richard, so she hurried this time around and got her plate and cup there.

When they brought the plate and the cup back, she took it and set it on the floor. It was only when the rats rushed to it that she realised they had changed the food. It was a small piece of bread. She fought the urge to grab the bread in spite of her growling stomach but failed miserably.

Shooing the mice away, she grabbed the bread anyway and bit into it. It wasn't bad at all. She shut her eyes and enjoyed the taste of food once more. She had grown so lean in just three days, her wounds from the beating worsening her appearance.

Forgetting that the liquid in the cup was brine, she grabbed the cup and gulped the liquid. She widened her eyes when she remembered what the contents of the cup was supposed to be but furrowed her brows when it tasted like normal water. She picked the cup and smelt the inside. No scent. She downed the rest of the water and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand.

A few minutes after returning to her sitting position, her door opened. She sat up and tried to have a peek at who had opened the door.

"Get out here." A manly voice that belonged to Richard ordered. At first, she was confused but regained her composure and stood erect as the thought of being released found its way into her mind. "Will you make it snappy!" Richard barked this time.

She hurried over to him and he in turn dragged her out of the underground dungeons. She smiled until she was shoved into a room that had so many books on shelves in sight. Blinking a three times per second and shielding her eyes from the sun's rays that threatened to blind her, she saw a male figure with his back turned to her.

It didn't take a genius to know who it was. She lowered her head as she knelt down. "What did I do?" She muttered. "Tell me! What. Did. I. Do???" She yelled at him.

He turned slowly and elegantly to face her. At least he shielded her from the sun with his body. She lifted her head and looked right into his eyes.

"You still don't know what you did? Oh my..you must have such poor memory." He mocked her and wore an evil grin.

"You betrayed me little one. I told you but I'll consider and tell you again." He placed his hands on his cheeks and pretended to cry and blush. "Aren't I so kind? Oww, I can't believe it myself you know." He faked sniffed, imitating women and their vulnerability.

He laughed out loud; a humourless laughter, with his booming voice that went and bouced off the walls of the library they were in. Mia broke into a fit of tears.

"Now don't you cry little one. All shall be well." He squatted beside her and mimicked the act of consolation. He rose and spoke. "Did you enjoy the special breakfast I gave you? Now I did that for you alone." Some silence elasped between them.
