- [F/N]'s POV -

The crisp morning air invades my lungs as I let out a slight sigh, my gaze taking in the building before me. I was sent to work here for the next few months while my own station was "under construction". A lot of the workers were sent out to different districts so none of us would be out of work, which I was thankful for, I didn't fancy hunting around for a new job so late in the year.

I take a step inside the building, somehow managing to stumble over the mat as I make my way in. I glance around, noting a few peoples amused and confused expressions while I wait for my embarrassment to fade.
At least I made their day, I suppose.

The station was surprisingly nice - well spaced out and not as crowded as I was expecting when I examined the outside. I glimpse around, trying to spot the Captain's office, not seeing anything that stood out to me. I politely stop a lady, asking her where it was and then try to ignore the fact that it was literally right in front of me.
Wow, [F/N], you're doing so well...

I step up to the door and let my knuckles tap against the glass, hoping it wasn't as loud as it sounded for me. The captain opens the door, gesturing for me to step inside
"Detective [L/N], I'm assuming. Welcome to Detroit, I hope you found the place easily enough."
Fowler says, giving a light smile as he makes his way back behind his desk, sitting down and getting comfortable in his chair.
"It wasn't exactly difficult to notice..."
I mumble as I sit down in front of him, folding my arms over my stomach as I listen to the captain explain my job to me.

"Obviously, you know how to do your job but things here are much more different from where you last worked. And it's not that I don't trust you, it's more so... I can't risk you fucking anything up."
He explains, pressing the tips of his fingers together and watching me for any response I might have. When I don't respond, he continues,
"I'm partnering you up with one of my detectives, he's been here for years and... Well, let's just say you'll both do each other some good. He needs to learn to do his work and you need to learn it too so... It works in everyone's favour."
Fowler gives a slight shrug, not seeming to care about the way he spoke. Well, it certainly made a change from my last Boss but he was too the point and I can respect that.

Soon enough, a male came striding into the office, not being so gentle with the door as he does so
"You needed to see me?"
He mutters, tone bored and slightly annoyed as he speaks. I look over the back of my chair, looking at the man and being pleasantly surprised by what I see. He as good looking, to say the least. Sure, he would probably look better if he took better care of himself but who was I do judge?
He crossed his arms, leaning against the glass wall as he listens to the Captain
"Gavin, this is [L/N]. He'll be joining us for the next few months. You are to partner him until he at least-"
"Hold the fuck on!What? Partners? I never signed up to babysit some knob!"
He says, puffing out his chest as he speaks as if he was trying to assert dominance.
Hm, wouldn't mind him asserting dominance with me-
I shake my head, the captain's voice dragging me back into reality
"Gavin, you will listen and you will assist this man."
He says, voice stern and unwavering whereas Gavin still decided to argue back
"With all due respect, sir, I won't be assisting anyone!"
"I think the store down the road is looking for workers..."
The Captain mumbles, making Gavins features scrunch up in confusion
"What...?"
"I'd go fucking apply if you're not going to do your work here because you'll find yourself kicked out the damn door faster than you can say 'prick'!"
Fowler shouts, glaring in Detective Reed's direction while the man stands there in surprised. I rub the back of my neck, feeling more than awkward at the sudden weight in the room.
Gavin narrows his eyes, huffing out a deep breath
"He better not get in my way..."
Was all he said before he moves out of the office, his body language showing his annoyance.
"... Is he always this prone to tantrums?"
I ask, getting up and adjusting my clothing before following the male, seeing as Captain Fowler had nothing further to say to me.
