Kayla's POV

Anthony has been on the phone for the past thirty minutes. I was finally able to get Ace to sleep, and I was hoping to spend a few moments alone with Anthony. It wasn't easy getting Ace to go to sleep.

I'm happy Elijah taught me all about art. He told me that art was nothing more than a story. He said that if you could make art, you could create a story.

I created story after story for Ace. Stories about smart little boys and flying airplanes. Stories about warm nights and fireflies. Then finally, I told him stories about families that stick together.

Anthony still hadn't told Ace that they were brothers. I have given him many openings to do so. The kid needs him, and whether he chooses to admit it or not, Anthony needs Ace too.

He turns around and runs his hand down in face in frustration. I can't wait until this is over with. Maybe then, he will smile a bit more.

He opens his eyes, and they lock on mine. A smile plays at the corner of his mouth. I blow him a kiss and wiggle my fingers. I glance back over my shoulder, and shoot him a seductive look.

Finally, I get what I want. He tells the person on the phone that he will call them back. The pounding of his feet on the hardwood floor is my only warning that he is near. He scoops me up an carries me to my bed.

He gently put me down on the bed, and I began to relax. He then throws himself on top of me. He is such a child. I slap him in the back of his head.

He rolls off of me and begans to pout.

"Aww, come her you big baby."

He places his head on my lap amd closes his eyes. I lightly began to run my fongers through his hair. He moans then wrap his arms around my waist.

I lean back against the headboard and close my eyes. I began to hum a mindless tune. Anthony's grip on my wiast never falters. Even as his breathing evens out, his grip is strong and true.

I'm enveloped by a sense of peace. His arms feel like coming home. The feeling you get once you walk through your front doors, after a long day at work. It's like going to your happy place, where nothing and no one can affect you.

I feel safe in his arms, and I slowly began to drift off to sleep.

***Time Lapse***

When I wake up, I am alone in the bed. I walk out the room in search of everyone else. I find them whispering in the kitchen. Once I walk through the doors, silence descends upon the room.

"What's going on?"

Anthony meets my gaze, and I see nothing but determination in his eyes.

"Can I speak with Kayla privately?"

As soon as the words leave his lips, everyone exits the room.

I sit down at the table across from him. I wait for him to explain what's going on.

"Rafe found a bug planted in your bag. Out location has been compromised. We are leaving, and this time we can't take anything with us. We will be splitting up. Niyah and Taylor will ride with Justin and Dontae. Ace will also be riding with them. You will ride with Rafe and me."

"Ace can ride along with us. I don't know how comfortable he would be around the others."

"It would be safer if he rode with the others. You are Gustavo's daughter."

I wanted to repsond to that, but the look in his eyes stopped me. He grabbed my hand across the table, and slightly shook his head no. He thinks they're still listening.

"I hate that I'm outting everyone in trouble. Can we just get this over with?"

"We're still a ways away from Gustavo's current location."

"You know what I don't understand. What kind of father would do something like this? What kind of father would give his daughter away 'to protect her' only to put her in danger later?"

"That wasn't his intention-"

"Save it, let's just go."

Unknown POV

This is taking entirely too long. I have been waiting weeks for my happy ending.

I looked at the picture of my father sitting at the edge of my desk.

"Tell me what to do."

There was a knock at the door.

"Enter."

In walked Aiden. This was a problem that I knew how to take care of.

"After they escaped the ball, I couln't find them. They switched safe houses without me knowing."

"Are you really surprised? Your work is sloppy. If you was as good as you though you were, my plan wouldn't have taken this long. You have outliced your usefulness my friend."

I raised my gun to tie up this loose end.

"Wait-."

I pulled the trigger. The resounding gunshot had men rushing to my door. The opened the door to make shre everythkng was ok.

"Please send someone to clean up this mess."

I walked out of the room as a new plan began to form. Good thing I had more than one person on the inside. Hopefully, he was able to plant the bugs without anyone noticing.

Anthony, Rafe, and I were finally on the road. I hadn't uttered a word sonce the ride started. I was currently pretending to ne asleep.

"Let's stop at the gas station right quick. We can get a bit of gas, and grab something to eat."

I really didn't feel like talking to either of them, but I was a bit hungry. When the car stopped, I continued to sit there with my eyes closed. One of the front doors opened and closed.

"Alright Kayla, you can stop acting like you're sleeping. I have shared a bed with you enough times to know that you snore. Sorry baby, but you snore like an empty wagon on a train track."
