Harry was in the library when his friends came and got him. "Harry! Did you hear about what happened to a first year?" He looked up from his text book to Hermione. "No what happened?" She pulled out the school paper and gave it to him. Sure enough the headline said it all 'first year girl found petrified, Students advised to take caution' "I feel so bad for her" he let out a sigh going to get more info later from sev. He handed it back to Hermione, "I wonder how it happened, it couldn't have been an easy spell" Draco nodded in agreeence getting closer to Harry's friends after seeing the truth. The three sat and chatted till their next class.

It was during Harry's break after lunch that he went to see Severus, he didn't have a class to teach then. The man himself was in the supply cupboard taking inventory. Harry went over "hey professor" severus turned to look at him and nodded to a student next to him helping for detention. "Potter I see your here for your detention, I want you to sort through papers in my office" Harry got the message and went in to severus office. He knew he didnt actually have detention so he sat in snape's chair and put his feet up on the desk. He was just out of sight of the student and the professor so he knew he wouldn't get in trouble. On the Snape's desk was a big old text book but that didn't catch harry's attention. It was the page it was open to. 'Potions for the petrified'. So he must be trying to help the first year. He skimmed over the text and it listed basilisk as a possible cause and cure. As he was reading he did hear Severus dismiss the student and come up to him. The professor leaned close to the boy's ear. "Mister potter I thought I asked you to sort through paperwork?"

Harry jumped face bright red. "I'm sorry professor I just got distracted by the potion book." He faced Snape, his cheeks still bright red. Severus let out a deep chuckle. "It's alright Harry I dismissed the gryffindor, I don't mind if you read the book either" the boy looked relieved. "You're mean Sev, but um what is a basilisk?" Severus walked into his office motioning harry to follow. Harry shut the office door behind him while Severus looks through his bookshelf. 'Hey you' Harry looked around wondering where that voice came from. In the corner of Sev's office was a small enclosure. "Did you get a pet Sev?" The potion master looked over. "Oh, Wolfsbane, he was a gift from the headmaster." The boy walked over to the tank, inside was tiny corn snake.

"Hello Wolfsbane, I'm Harry" Sev smiled at the boy and continued to find the book he needed

"Hello Wolfsbane, I'm Harry" Sev smiled at the boy and continued to find the book he needed. 'Hello Harry' the boy was startled for a second. "You can understand me?" the snake nodded. 'Yes I can' Harry was confused but he continued to have a conversation with the tiny creature. A big hand grabbed Harry's shoulder and spun him around. "Harry do you have any idea what language you are speaking?" He looked at Snape confused. Harry hissed out an answer so The professor took that as a no. "Potter you are speaking in parseltongue, and I can't understand anything you are saying." The elder lead the kid to a couch in the corner and sat him down. "I need you to focus, take a deep breath and think about what you want to say to me." Harry paused for a few long minutes, but just left out more confused hisses and a couple garbled syllables. "One more time, deep breath in" the pair took a deep breath together. "And out......Good job harry" slowly the boy let out his breath. "S-Sev? What is par... parsley... parseltongue?" Snape smiled glad the boy was able to talk normal. "It is the language of the snakes and as you saw in the book the basilisk" the boy's scar began to hurt a little.

"But how do I know it?" Harry reached up and ran his fingers over it trying to stop the pain. "My guess would be the dark lord. He is a parselmouth." Sev reached up an gentle ran his cold hand over Harry's scar. "When he gave you this it must have passed on to you." The pain dulled and Potter leaned into the professor's touch without thinking. "Just what I need more connecting me to my parents killer." Snape felt bad for the child, he had the weight of the wizarding world on his shoulders since that day. The professor pulled the sullen preteen into his lap and held him tight against his chest. "It's going to be okay Harry" The latter buried his face in the other's robes glad for the comfort.
