Always There (A Snarry story)

Chapt. 5 - The Train ride

Severus stood on the platform waiting for the Hogwarts express. It was quite odd for the older students waiting, to see the terrifying professor holding a child's hand. Said professor could tell that the others around the Two of them were watching. All he could do was hope that the train would arrive soon. He's only riding the train because Harry asked him too. He couldn't help that the boy made him soft. Only towards him though.

Soon the black and Scarlet train pulled into the station. "Stay close Harry" Harry's grip tightened on Snape's hand. They made their way to the last passenger car and into a compartment. This car is always less crowded and quiet. Severus pulled down the privacy blinds and put Harry's trunk on the rack above. He took a seat across from boy. "Is it always this crowded Sev?" The older man nodded.

It was 2 hours into the trip and Harry was out, curled up on the bench. Severus had a copy of The Daily Profit he was currently reading. He stretched his legs out and proped then up on the seat by the Eleven yearold's feet. The compartment door flew open and a two loud children stepped in, a boy and a girl. Harry flew up and fell off the bench. The other two stood frozen in their place.

The girl went over to Harry and knelt down "Oh my, are you okay?" She looked him over carefully. "My name is Hermione by The way, what's your's?" They both completely ignored the man that was quietly watching the exchange. "I'm H-Harry" she smiled at his shy demeanor. "It's nice to meet you Harry, oh that idiot over there is Ron . We were looking for a boy's frog" Harry waved at Ron. "Frog?" Snape decided now would be a good time to speak up. "One of the pets you can have at Hogwarts Mister Potter" They all jumped in suprise. "Bloody hell it's Professor Snape, you look just as my brothers described you" I let out a sigh. "Oh boy another Weasly, just my luck".

Snape let the children stay in the compartment, they pretty much talked the entire time. He just continued to read. Severus did a quick Tempus charm and saw they will be at the school soon. "You three better get changed into your robes" he got a collective "Yes Professor" and they did what they were told. Then it was just Snape and Harry again. "Now when we get there go with Hagrid, I have to go with the other professors in the great hall" Harry gave him a nod. "Remeber the four houses?" Harry nods again "Yes, and your head of slytherin, and my parents were Gryffindor." Snape stood up "whatever house you're in don't let it change you" The train came to a stop and it was time for them to part ways for a little while.

Snape watched as Harry made it to the boats with Granger and Weasley. Once they set off he made his way inside and to the head table. Dreading what was to come of this year. Harry on the other hand was in awe as soon as he stepped in side. "You must be potter, I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy if you become friends with me then I'll make sure you have all the right friends" Harry wasn't sure about this and was panicing slightly. "He doesn't want to be friends with you" Harry looked at Ron with admiration. Before the blonde could reply the doors opened and an old women came out. She explained the sorting like Snape already did. Pretty soon they were lead in.

Snape's eyes scaned the group until he found Harry. The boy was looking at the enchanted ceiling in awe. But soon Harry was looking at him with a grin on his face. That grin soon vanished when names where being called for sorting. Granger and Weasly were both placed in Gryffindor. After a few more names Harry was called up. Once he took a seat the sorting hat was placed on his head. "so much talent in you Mister Potter just a matter of where to put you....Cunning, sly....brave....Hmmmm...Let it be SLYTHERIN" the boy paled instantly looking like he was about to faint. Snape stood and went to his side. he spoke only loud enough for Harry to hear him. "Harry? Harry are you okay?" Snape stood the boy up and walked him out of the great hall.

It wasn't till they were half way to Severus' Chambers did he start to respond. "Do I have to stay in the dorms?" Snape sighed "Why do you ask?" He opened the door and let Harry in. The boy sat on the couch and pulled his knees to his chest. "They all seem to hate me already. The Malfoy kid seems really mean too." Severus sat next to him and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. "try being in the dorms for a little while, if you still feel bad about it I will talk to the head master" Harry agreed. "Can I stay here tonight though?" Snape contemplated the thought for a moment. "Fine but only tonight"

A house elf was called and he brought a plate of food for each of them. Harry dove right in straight away. Snape chided him lightly "Slow down a little the food is not going any where" He slowed down right away "Sorry". Once dinner was done Severus showed the boy where the bathroom was. He gave the boy his bed and set the couch up for himself. Harry climb into the tall warm bed and smiled at the figure in the doorway. "If you need anything I will be right outside the door. Good night Harry" the boy pulled the blankets up to his chin. "good night severus" it wasn't long till the boy was fast asleep. Sleep didn't come so easy to the other but he too eventually fell into a restless sleep.
