Jeongguk pov
The word walk it has many deep meanings. It is just a way to move, but women can seduce with a walk, men can show dominance with a walk, children can show reflections of there up bringing through their walk, yet the kings son Jeongguk can't even discern which path is the best for his worn out feet.
They say that the wise have to chose a righteous path, but they would never know if that person would have gone astray mid way or turn away and retrace the old path. I might have gone astray from my last path, but I found out that there isn't just one path. Life is like a maze there are twists and turns and dead ends, but there will always be an exit.
This was one of my dead ends. The king had issued a decree to be made that my mother's late maid be torn apart in five pieces. Apparently she stole three pieces of silver from Concubine Min.
I was about to go plead for her innocence, but Head Commander Yang said that there was a test that all the children of nobles did in the north when he was young. The King had permitted the princes to do this test and they were called to the pavilion at once.
I walked to the pavilion with Sehun trailing behind me. Through the distance I could hear whispers and laughs from the people around us. The anxiety started to rise and I got chills. Taking Sehun's hand I headed to the pavilion ignoring the stares. The stress seemed to be gone as I stood next to my brothers waiting for the test to start.
Head Commander Yang walked in his aura strong and fierce. "Princes, today we are going to do a test on hero like qualities. There will be three tests. This is a disclaimer this is not a competition it is your chance of seeing your inner hero. Your ancestors worked hard to make the palace grand and you will one day make it even grander," Head Commander Yang said voice loud and strong. He pointed at the evenly spaced tables and told us to sit.
"The first test is simple there are three people trapped in a house on fire. The first one is a First rank official, the second is a farmer, the third one is the officials daughter. Who will you save first," Head Commander Yang said in a thought provoking tone.
Namjoon was the first to pick up his brush and write his answer down. Seeing that he was clear about his answer I started to think hard. If I chose the official I would be named a hero. So that was a first choice. I wasn't fond of woman, but the daughter still had connections and has a life to live. She will make a good answer. I saw Head Commander Yang look at me. My hands were shaking and I wrote the first word that came to my mind.
'Farmer' I wanted to find the benefits of choosing the farmer and unexpectedly wrote the farmer. I was doomed, but it was going to be fine if I chose the right words then it might not be awkward.
"Namjoon seems like your finished why don't you tell us what you have chosen," Head Commander Yang said.
"Yes Head Commander Yang, I have chosen to rescue the daughter of the official. Before I had thoughts to choose the official, but if that official had done something unacceptable in the court there is no reason for him to live and one less official won't hurt anyone. On the other hand the daughter hasn't done anything to the court and can be given a second chance," Namjoon said with careful reasoning behind his words.
"I can see the point of view you are coming. Very wise choice *nods head*. Hoseok I can see you have finished as well, why don't you tell us your thoughts," Head Commander Yang said.
"Yes sir, I must say that Namjoon had a wise point of view, but what if the official was innocent. You will be killing an innocent civilian. I on the other hand will choose the official. They would be a significant help in the inner court," Hoseok said stating his facts.
"That is also a debatable topic. You and your brother have different thinking, but have the same will that is good," Head commander Yang said.
"Sir, This might not be a choice in the test, but I would choose to send a relief army to help putting out the fire and help the people," Yoongi said.
"That is also a good answer calling professional help to the grounds, " Head Commander Yang said.
"Sir, I would help the most injured ones first then go to the least injured," Seokjin said
"Consider the most needed person in the group instead of the rank. Very good I like that," Head Commander Yang said nodding at the end.
"Sir Taehyung and I have the same thought about this matter and that is call for professional help," Jimin said looking at Taehyung.
"That is the safest choice," Head Commander Yang said, "What about you Jeongguk?"
"I think that choosing tge farmer is the correct choice. It might be different to others, bit farmers produce the food the palace has. Nobles can enjoy good food because the farmer put in the work. All life is valuable, but it can't be sustained if there is no food. So I look as this like survival. The noble is money. The daughter is pleasure, and the farmer is food. If there was no food. There will be no money or pleasure. ," I said.
"That is also good thinking. You princes have truly out standing knowledge. The next task is to go out of the palace, and deliver a note to a restaurant in the east. There will be a map but the locations won't have a name instead there will be a symbol. You will all get a different map with the same destination. i have appointed guards to follow you in a discreet manner so you will be safe," Head Commander Yang said and he handed the map to us.
My map had the symbols of the Chinese elements: fire (south), water (north), metal (west), earth (center), and wood (east).
I looked at my map and the first symbol was the metal element which meant I had to go west of the palace. I grabbed my cloak and told Sehun to get my horse. I went in to my chamber to grab the note. I noticed the jade flute on my table. I grabbed it and it turned in to a dagger. I was shocked and dropped the dagger moving back. After the realization hit me I grabbed the sword and hid it in my robe. It might come in handy if i meet someone unfavorable.
I see Sehun in the distance and and walked calmly as if nothing happened. He helped me mount my horse and we took of heading to the palace gates.
