Stumbling back in disbelief, you stopped your mouth from falling ajar. A quick and blunt "no" coming out as soon as you registered the statement that had just left the doc's mouth.
You weren't an optimistic let's face it. Once upon a time - a year to be exact - you would have been but now...you were nothing but that.
You had lost all hope of the return of V.I.R.T.U.E.
You weren't one of those typical female protagonists who waltzed around the city or village looking for potential heroes to help bring back her dream.
Hope was a word whose meaning had become numb and non-existent. You had spent half of the year moping around the house with nothing to do with yourself. The only time your father had seen you outside of the house was either feeding the cats, the hospital or your mothers grave. You lived off instant noodles and the muscles you once trained so hard to maintain had all but gone. Hope was nothing to you and you gave up a long time ago. V.I.R.T.U.E was never going to come back.
You screwed up and that's why V.I.R.T.U.E fell.
You failed in keeping the director safe, hence creating a lack of faith in the citizens.
You led V.I.R.T.U.E, the pillar of hope, to the grave.
Unknowingly you eyes weld up with tears. You never cry. You hadn't cried since your mother's death. You had held in all the guilt for the past year it had finally gotten to its boiling point and you finally let it out. For the first time in years, a hot tear trickled down your cheek.
"No." You said again but with less strength. The determination in both Jungkook and Minjin's face immediately dissolved once they say the tear fall from your left eye. "No." Your voice was barely audible but they both hear it loud and clear. Your whisper shattering through the stuffy atmosphere of the apartment.
Walking over cautiously, Minjin cupped your cheeks in the palms of her hand and enveloped you into a comforting embrace.
Jungkook knew exactly how you felt. The both of you were responsible for patrolling the second floor but someone you let the witch slip through your fingers. Even though the two of you had caught on you were too late. She was simply too powerful for the two of you to fight. No matter how hard the two of you tried she was always one step ahead. He knew exactly how you felt because he had spent the entire year blaming himself. But seeing you reminded him of why he wanted to be a demon hunter in the first place. Seeing you sparked the memories of training and the good times he had spent in the headquarters. He wanted that again and he will bring V.I.R.T.U.E back.
Then suddenly, everything Minjin had been trying to tell him was starting to make sense.
All he needed was hope. The spark which was once lost had been rekindled in Jungkook's doe-like eyes.
