Fitz Vacker the freak who can hear people's thoughts. That's the only way I ever thought of myself. When I was younger dreamt of a place where everything was perfect. Crystal castles ,clean air ,perfect people ,no poverty. I still do sometimes but it's been awhile since I last dreamt of that place. That perfect city.

And after the dreams started that's when I could hear whispers and at first I thought it was my imagination but the voices were from the people around me ,except their mouths didn't move because it was only their thoughts.

As I got older I taught myself how to control whose thoughts I listen to and how to block them. The whispers gave me headaches and stopped me from sleeping. It was torture.

I snapped back into reality at the sound of my fathers voice.

"We are not here to dwell on the past but instead to celebrate the future... Della was the most amazing and beautiful agent anyone has seen in a long time. Her passing has brought grief and sadness to our family. She was an amazing wife but an even better mother ,she may not die in vain and we shall carry out her legacy to our children. Biana and Fitz." A loud applause followed the end of my fathers speech and the only people who didn't applaud were Biana and I.

Sometimes I wish I could live in that perfect world with a perfect family. All this legacy bullshit my father talks about is fake. I know how he actually feels and he only speaks for the attention ,I knew the truth and my father is not one to be praised.

It was a horrible death that my mother didn't deserve. Father was such a coward ,he could've saved her but instead fled for his own life. Leaving her there to burn in flames.

He doesn't tell anyone the truth because he knows he's the one to blame.

How could someone be so selfish and arrogant? I watched from the corner of the large room as he put on a sad face and socialized with the rest of the agency. Getting pats on the back and long hugs. Like he was an innocent by stander watching the flames devour the building till it was just ash and rubble.

I felt so angry and somewhat guilty. If only I had been there ,I could've done what my father couldn't do. I could've saved her ,and the worst part is I barely even got to spend time with my mother. Every mission she went one was just another excuse for late dinners and cold breakfast. And that doesn't mean I didn't love her ,she was still my mother and she tried her hardest to help Biana and I but sometimes it just wasn't enough.

I saw as our father approached me while Biana gave me a look and stalked away leaving me alone with my father. He gave me a small smile and put a hand on my shoulder while walking me out the door.

"Son ,how do you feel about your first solo mission?"

Back in Michigan...

"Sophie darling ,a letter is here for you!" Her mom yelled up the stairs and walked into the kitchen while putting the letter on the counter.

Rushed foot steps came down the stairs through the hall and into the kitchen. The blonde rushed to the counter and sat down scrambling to keep her hands steady as she ripped open the letter.

A long silence followed and Sophie grinned looking the letter up and down a couple times before looking at her mother.

"I-I can't b-believe it," She stammered looking shocked yet so full of excitement.

"Did you get in?" Her mom asked looking confused and worried.

Sophie had no words so she just nodded her head so fast her head started to hurt.

It took her mother no less than a millisecond to process the information and attack Sophie with a big and tight hug.

Her mom Edaline ,had always been super supportive and kind even when it was just a little thing. But this time it was huge. This time she was going to university but it wasn't just any university. She was attending the Central Michigan University in order to majour in creative writing.

I know it sounds boring but she had always had dreams of an imaginary place since she was five. She would often visit this beautiful city in her dreams but everything about it felt so real. The crystal castles and the beautiful fresh air. She wanted to write it down and show kids where imagination can take you. To embark on a new journey that she never knew she started.

"Okay mom I think your squeezing a little too tight,"

"I'm sorry sweetie," she said as she let go putting both her hands on Sophie's shoulders. "I'm just so proud of you! You're finally fulfilling you're dreams ,and don't let anything or anyone get in the way of that." She said cocking an eye brow.

"Assuming your referring to boys-"

"Men..." Her mother corrected her with a wary look in her eyes.

"Anyways I'll be fine I'm not going there looking for men I'm looking for some education." She responded tapping the side of her head.

"I know I know , I just want my baby girl to be safe," her mother said holding her face with her hands. "Okay enough of the heavy let's go get your father. We should celebrate!"

"So you're telling me you want me to live with a girl for four years. In University. And just watch her?" I said looking at my father confused , "Mind you I have no clue who she is and why I'm watching her."

"Yes I know it's...strange but this girl is in danger and people are trying to find her because there's something different about her that is very important. If she lands in the wrong hands we could have some serious issues." He said trying to persuade his still confused son.

"Who are these other people?" I asked not knowing if I truly wanted the answer.

"They call themselves The Neverseen ,and they're very dangerous people," He responded lowering his voice down to a whisper ,"They have an eye tatoo on their arms and wrists ,so if you ever find one you'll know."

"Great ,So you just want me to stalk her?"

"Yes ,but you also need to figure out what is so important about her that other people want her for." He said placing a hand on Fitz's shoulder. He flinched at the contact but remained eye contact.

"When do I leave?" Fitz said suddenly more confident in himself.

"2 weeks time ,she starts university and you will be her roommate. You'll also be in all her classes so I expect you don't let her out of your site." His father said sternly taking his hand awkwardly off his son's shoulder.

"Yes Father." Fitz said trying to hide the burning sensation of excitement. He's never been on a solo mission much less one so important. It seemed easy but he had a feeling it sounded more easy than it was.
