A Cognate's Love (Sophitz)

Chapter 19 | Broken

"I just don't understand." Fitz said.

But Sophie did ,the only way he could possibly have been able to teleport is if he had his genetics modified.

What did this mean?

All Sophie could think about was when and how ,when she found out she thought she was some puppet ,and the Black Swan was pulling all the strings ,it took her awhile until she finally embraced herself ,but she had a feeling Fitz would react different ,and Sophie knew that he wouldn't forgive his parents if they had something to do with it.

"Fitz," Sophie said giving him a sympathetic look ,she can't believe she hadn't thought about this before.

He didn't say anything ,didn't nod ,didn't look away. He just stared at her.

"Are you reading my mind?!" She asked standing up.

"Yes." He said looking at her as a tear rolled down his cheek.

"I guess I should get used to that..." Sophie said ,she tried to smile to show him not to worry ,but she couldn't, and in all honesty he should be scared and worried.

He sucked in a deep breath ,but instead of this calming him down it just made him cry even more. Sophie knelt down beside him ,she hadn't realized she started to cry too.

Fitz wrapped his arms around her ,and normally this would send butterflies in her stomach and make her heart flutter but now was not the time.

"I'm sorry Fitz," Sophie said burying her face into his shoulder ,he pulled her into his lap ,they didn't let go of each other ,it felt good and they both calmed each other down.

Sophie pulled away first ,she regretted it when she saw his puffy eyes and red cheeks. She wiped his tears away.

"I don't like those," She pouted.

She saw his smile appear for a split second but it quickly faded.

"I know we have a lot going but you need to be strong ,I understand you want to give up but we can't ,we're so close." She said.

"It all just seems too impossible." Fitz said burying his face in her shoulder. She played with a small strand of his hair twisting it around her finger.

"Listen to the person whose nearly died 7 times and had been lied to her whole life ,things like this tend to work out." Sophie tried to reassure him. He was acting like a little puppy and he was too adorable.

"You transmitted that." Fitz smiled ,a real and genuine smile that definitely made the butterflies go crazy.

She didn't know what to say so instead she kissed him ,it was short and sweet and tasted wet and salty from all the crying but it was worth it because it seemed to relax him.

The two sat there a little while longer.

"Are you mad?" Sophie asked.

"Should I be?" Fitz asked.

"No..." She replied after a few seconds of silence.

"Okay ,I'll try," Fitz sighed ,"but we have more important things to deal with right now."

"Do you think Mr. Forkle did this?" Sophie asked ,she couldn't hold back the question any longer.

"I don't know ,and if he was ,the man is made of secrets so I wouldn't be surprised." Fitz admitted.

"Yeah I guess..." Sophie said ,she got up and walked towards the door ,"Get some sleep ,okay?"

She watched him nod his head from the corner of her eye.

She opened the door to head downstairs with everyone else but she bumped into something.

"Keefe?" She asked looking up at his ice blue eyes ,he seemed upset and his cheeks were pink.

"Keefe what's wrong?" She asked him.

He looked down at her like she was some puzzle that made no sense.

"So ,you and the Fitzter?" He asked looking down at her.

"I'm sorry," Sophie said ,"we didn't want to tell everyone till this was over."

"We're friends Foster ,I used to be in love with you but it was always him. Why didn't you tell me ,we're supposed to tell each other these things." Keefe spat out.

"Keefe..." Sophie tried to calm him down ,the sudden confession hit her heart with a thump.

"No Foster ,you chose who you wanted ,I just don't think you made the right choice." Keefe said ,"Let's leave it at that."

And then he walked away.

That's when she knew. She had broken him. He loved her and she never noticed ,but Fitz is who she wants. Keefe was going to have to live with that as much as it broke her heart to see him sulk. She needed to fix their friendship ,before he does something stupid.
