A Cognate's Love (Sophitz)

Chapter 18 | A Plan

The plan was simple.

We use Dex's new device which he had named "Vacker Tracker" ,but only because Keefe had insisted he give it a name ,to track down their location and hopefully using the same strategy they used for Sophie's kidnapping ,cause a distraction and then sneak in. The plan was feeble and it could definitely use some more work but time was ticking and the longer they waited the more time the Neverseen had to act.

They had already decided that Fitz ,Keefe ,Sophie ,Ro and Sandor would go in while Mr. Forkle ,Edaline, and Grizel caused a distraction.

But even that morning as Dex was showing them the device that he had been working on Fitz still felt something was wrong.

They made a plan ;which wasn't a very good plan because they had no clue where this would lead them. And yet ,they still were so many steps behind ,the Neverseen are always ahead and no matter what they do we will never be close enough to stop them.

"I know it's a little old fashioned but ,I attached something that would work as a compass so instead of Sophie having to stretch her mind out ,we could follow the arrow which points to their specific location ,so even when we get to whatever building they're in ,we won't waist time shredding the place apart to look for them." Dex explained ,Fitz was barely able to pay attention ,he was so keen on finding his family he was far to anxious to listen.

"So we walk?" Sophie asked. "The device is amazing but they could be anywhere."

"Exactly ,which is why we have gnomes on our side." Mr. Forkle chirped in ,"A few have volunteered to help us for where ever we need to go."

"So it's settled. When do we leave?" Fitz asked ,he couldn't keep holding back on finding his family not after they had gotten so close to a happy ending.

"Midnight." Mr. Forkle said.

"Why not now?" Fitz asked raising his voice. Fitz never liked getting angry but it was always the easiest way to cope.

"I know it's not perfect ,and we wish we could go right now ,but we need to go late when their defenses are lowered and we could cover ourselves in ash to hide." Mr. Forkle explained.

Fitz could tell he meant well and that this was effecting him too but he still couldn't calm down the beast inside of him.

"I just can't take it anymore..." Fitz mumbled kicking the ground.

"I understand ,Mr. Vacker ,we all have lost someone before ,and we're lucky they haven't been killed." Mr. Forkle reminded him.

Fitz knew what Mr. Forkle was talking about ,even after he cleared his throat and continued discussing the plans.

But this started a whole new burst of worries and anger ,what if Biana and Alden were killed?

Fitz felt someone grab his hand ,he looked over to see Sophie ,she didn't look at him and pretended to be focusing on Mr. Forkle but he could tell she was worried.

Do you think they're...

Is that bad?

No ,but I was thinking the same thing.

They both made eye contact and Sophie seemed to have an apologetic look on her face.

Yeah...I know.

You read my mind?

Fitz could tell she was uncertain when she looked anywhere but him ,and he could tell she didn't want to make him angry.

It took Fitz a couple seconds before he transmitted back.

It's okay ,I guess I'll just have to get used to you breaking rules.

Fitz tried to smile and he knew she tried to laugh but the two were still too worried to think about themselves.

Yep ,but that doesn't give you permission to snoop around my head.

I don't need your permission I have the password.

He winked at her but it still felt very wrong ,how does Keefe do this? Sophie squeezes his hand and he calmed down a bit ,but he still couldn't stop thinking about the possibility that they could be dead on the cold hard ground in some stupid prison.

Midnight had never come around so slowly and Fitz felt as if every second was a minute and they were all wasting time.

He tried to sleep as much as possible to be prepared for a long night of fighting and running and hopefully rescuing his family.

He heard the knob on the door open and the door freaked open just enough for Sophie to stick her head through.

"Fitz?" She called.

"Over here!" I said from the bed.

She walked in and went over to the side of the bed ,I hadn't realized how stupid I looked until she giggled at me.

"What?" I asked squeezing Mr. Snuggles even tighter...oh.

"I'm glad you didn't get tired of him." She said with a sad smile.

"Never." I said ,"Where's Ella?"

"I don't actually know ,all my stuff was at the university ,Mr. Forkle said he would bring her but I haven't heard of anything about it yet." She sighed.

"Well we can share. For now." I said holding out Mr. Snuggles like he just won a huge award. She laughed and patted his head.

"Well you might need Mr. Snuggles because we have a lot to talk about." She said raising her eyebrows.

"About?" I asked.

"We have had so much going on we completely forgot about how we got here in the first place." She said ,"Fitz ,you teleported us here."

Ahhhhhhh... okay so fun story ,I completely forgot about the whole Fitz being able to teleport and so 11 chapters later here we are! :)))))))

Also this story is coming close to an end and I think we have about 3-5 more chapters. Crazy ,right? I'm so thankful for all you guys this has been an incredible story ,but it's not over yet. And I'm thinking of making a sequel or maybe just a prolepsis.
